Hi All

This morning started the motor at -14 no problems.

Three quarters of an hour after the motor had been switched off, the wife went to drive off.

Now this is were it all went a bit Pete tong.

Selected first gear, disengaged the hand brake and tried to pull away, but motor was stuck solid. She gave a little throttle to go over some snow that had come lose from the mud guards the day before when the car jumped forward with a strong smell of clutch.

She didint ride the clutch, as an ex cop she knows how to drive.

No van was on tow mate.

Anyway, only pull with the FL2, the mover does the hard work on site. Most people burn the clutch reversing the van.

you the clutch whilst towing the thing, the symptoms are now showing in the extreme weather.
try free rolling down a slight slope to check you don't have binding brakes due to a frozen handbrake cable etc etc At work

Well handbrake off for now.

That will please the wife, as she keeps telling me to park in gear.

I suppose I'm lucky as my drive is flat but haven't used the handbrake in over a week in these temperatures, same at work all day. We have suffered from freezing fog as we live quite close to the Humber Estuary and it's making it difficult to get in the car let alone the brakes releasing.

In fact I have to pour hot water over the metal gate first before reaching the car, I have a garage but like most people, it's used by my wife as a junk room.

Could it have been the smell of brakes rather than clutch? Just wondering if you'd managed to activate the traction control system which had used braking?

Could have been. But havint smelled brake before so don't know.

Might have had excess water on rear disc etc

AndyC says he doesn't use handbrake on cold weather etc due to freezing up, not sure what to do if you live on a hill though

The wife smells like burnt clutch, she will love that
