RUSTY NUTS!

rust appearing on my locking wheel nuts only 2 month old on a 26k car - if i wanted that i would have bought a KIA. Could be worse, i could have bought a range rover at 60k!

This was a well know problem in the early days. Had mine changed under Warranty at the First Service but the replacement set also rusted.
I recall some people suggesting spraying with WD40 and not using allow wheel cleaners.

My nuts are also rusty (due to my age!!). Locking ones only.

I think the only solution is to get some decent aftermarket nuts; i've been promised that mine can be replaced under warranty but i can't see the point as those will also rust.
I don't use wheel cleaners either. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

After being retired for 6 years I would have expected my Nuts to have gone rusty, but as long as you keep 'em warm and dry and change your undies each day you should have no probs. Offset your Carbon emissions by boycotting Baked Beans and all Green Vegitables.

I thought rust was mainly caused through lack of use.

Asked dealer at 2 year service if a warranty claim possible, answer NO. Sad as other nuts all OK. Poor spec to a supplier? Any reason why warranty should not cover? fit for purpose etc??

Should be a no problem warranty claim. Done once with a very by the book LR dealer who authorised it with LR technical. Some service departments not making any effort I think.

Not good enough. If they rust they should be replaced. Sounds like idle dealer to me. My dealer has already stated that they'll change mine under warranty. Insist on a replacement.
And you'll soon be back for another set before too long. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

NPinks had claims turned down on 2 vehicles and seemed to accept it (see above) so down to the dealer's discretion. I think it is a very minor issue compared with others but 'fit for purpose'?
Worth a sticky poll as to experience MODS?

Had one set changed at 1st Service and understood that had I gone back to the Dealer for my second with the same problem they would have considered changing them again. When I went back for the 3rd Service they said they couldn't change them which was probably fair as I didn't use them for the 2nd.

Yeah, i read Pinky's reply. Aint good enough.
Problem is the dealer knows new ones will rust within a short time so you'll soon be back. Hence they can't be bothered.
You are still covered under warranty despite what your dealer says. However, in the long term, you'd be better to buy yourself some locking wheel nuts elsewhere. Another member of the failed FL2 clutch/DMF club, twice.

I felt better about the rusty nuts on my 3 year old FL2 when a friend came round to show off his 5 month old Porsche 911 and its nuts were nearly as bad as mine!!! Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!
