2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Baltic Blue

Me again,

I noted previous comments about Dealers giving me Bum Info.

I decided to check the manual that came with the car.

Page 109 specifically refers to an 'Auxiliary Heater' and to quote the manual "When the heater is operating exhaust fumes from the heater may be visible exiting from the front underside.......".

Your comments on this would be welcome??

Regards

That refers to a fuel burning heater which as I understand isn't fitted to UK models of the freelander. The owners handbook covers all versions of the car including those for europe including the scandinavian countries where I believe the fuel burning heater is fitted as standard or as an option.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong they usually do on here ______________________

Hi Again,

Thank you for the information. So I have a handbook that covers all European Models. Nothing new in that.

Where are the details in the manual about the electric PTC heater then?

To come back to the reason for my enquiry. All I'm looking for is some information so that I know if is working or not.
I guess I will need to make a trip to my dealer again.
I have just checked the vehicle details. According to the spec I have an electric heater (PTC) and also heated front washer jets.

Recent frosty weather, my washer jets were frozen (My washer fluid is rated down to minus 20 deg)
Also I don't detect this PTC heater.

Just like to know how to check these things without having to journey to dealer every 5 minutes.

Sorry to go on but this Forum is a godsend.

Regards Andrewprd

The PTC (positive temperature coefficient) heater is simply an electrically heated matrix that sits in the airflow from the interior fan and, when the incoming air is cold, generates heat and warms the air passing over it, which then goes into the car interior. It is designed to be a short term heating method that provides some heat in the few minutes between starting the engine and the coolant providing warm air. This can be very useful for clearing windscreens of ice etc. as the air is slightly warmer than outside air. We are talking "slightly warmer"" here, not a blast of tropical magnitude. I don`t know what the heater is rated at, but if you consider that a 1KW heater would draw at least 77 amps from the alternator, I guess it isn`t very generously rated.
I guess it will be very hard to detect whether the first heat from the air vents is due to the PTC heater, or down to the engine coolant starting to warm up. The advantage of a PTC heater over a traditional heating element is that, as the airflow temperature through it increase, the PTC element automatically decreases its heat output. Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!

its also fully automated too, as the thread with my rather boring temp gauge and stopwatch videos showed that it heated the same whether the PROG button was pressed or not

Been automated that's probably the reason its not in the manual Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
