Scotland 2013 Freelander 2 SD4 GS Auto Fuji White

Been very busy since last post. 3 weekends = 1400 miles
560 mile round trip to Banff 1st weekend Oct, home for a day and off to Isle of Mull for Mull Rally, another 450 miles including 150 on single track roads home from there and been at IRC Rally Scotland covering another 350 miles.

Result, not once did revs hang on after using kickdown, change up earlier and most noticable now averaging 40mpg. That included some swift driving on Mull when roads closed.

Definite improvement. All FL2's (3) Gone
2011 Mercedes C180 CGI Gone
FL2 GS Auto SD with heated leather, factory tints, alloy spare and a few other bits.

This about your old problems...
But what about the sluggishness that some people are talking about?
Did you noticed any slower response of the throttle? It seems softer or not?
Did you have the chance to see if, when kick-down applied, the RPMs go over 3000 RPM or not? Because I've heard some people saying that they didn't manage to make the engine rev. over 3000 RPM even kick-down applied.
And how earlier did it change?
My car, without update, when I take it easy, it changes the gear up at about 2000 RPM and when the change is made the RPM drops to 1500.

Alex,
When it’s driven light, up-shift happen just before 2000 rpm and yes then it drops to around 1500 rpm. Before the update it always goes over 2000 and then usually doesn’t change up a gear until you ease off the accelerator (say when doing 30mph) and I think the real improvement is that it moves up the gears quickly. Didn’t get a chance to check the kick downs to see if it goes above 3000 rpm. Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto

This old behaviour you're talking about (changing only over 2000 and shift up only on easyoff) it happens to me only in sport mode, which I find normal.
And yes, in normal mode, it moves up the gears quickly.
I am more and more tempted to ask the dealer to leave my box as it is, because the way it behaves now on your cars, after update, it behaves on mine now, but with the old firmware.
Who knows, maybe with my driving style, my box learned and stored a particular/proper shift strategy and seems that never do what other boxes does on other's cars.
I will see if it is possible to leave it as it is, because I have the feeling that the dealer won't agree, because it is his job and responsibility to bring the cars up to date...

I've finally done today the Q106.
The behaviour is about 80-90% the same, as I've suspected from your descriptions and my box's previous firmware "acting".
Still I've noticed that when driving hard, it seems to change a little later than before, at higher revolutions. Which, in a way, is better, because after change the RPM drop in the 2000-2500 RPM range where the torque is optimal.
Also, following a hard push on the throttle (not kick down) from a light drive, will change the gears more intelligently, without hesitation and/or guessing and uses a lot more than before the lock-up clutch of the torque converter.
All in all, is a step towards the better.

PS: I've noticed that the firmware that was programmed on my car is already at version 2. Q106v2, from December 6.
Why is that, I don't know yet, but I hope that LR is not making experiments on us, correcting things on the move. Although, this is the way it's happening, generally speaking, on all auto manufacturers. Confused

I've seen it on the screen of the IDS system at dealer's workshop.
That "v2" after the name of the service action Q106 caught my eyes .
Then I've verified on the Topix site and, indeed, it was released on December 6th.

Global reference: Q106v2 ROW
Publication date: 06-Dec-2010 10:06:56

Notice the ROW (Rest Of World) after the code of the action. Could be a v2 only for outside UK?
I will dig more when I will have the time......

Today I've went to the dealer and talked with the boys there.
I've found out what it's all about this version 2 of Q106.

The action was extended to include all the vehicles, from 2007 until 2010, VIN from 012596 to 200566.
In other words, more than 90% of the automatic vehicles.


So you, automatic guys, be prepared to all do the Q106. Laughing

When the Q106 issue first raised it's head, called the dealer, "no sir your's is not on the list".
Yesterday got the call "can we have your car to carry out the Q106 modification".

Shame really as it is at the dealers having a new pump fitted Confused Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her
Replaced by Ewok what a mistake - now a happy Disco Sport owner

Only if you have problems with the box and its behaviour.
Otherwise, as stated in the document in the first post, "the vehicle should be made available at the earliest opportunity".
