You can try again Junior, to turn it off on the button but at least one member on here can actually do a "Field Test" Thumbs Up

I did it once on my bimmer and you had to hold it for a least a few seconds before it would 'power down'

Cars are all just like computers these days...

press the button to boot up.
if something goes wrong, shut down and restart
When something horrible goes wrong it will go into safe mode
if you cant reboot, press and hold the power button to force a reboot
if something is really wrong - do a hard reset (battery out jobby)
failing all that install the latest service pack (software upgrade) and away you go..!! Thumbs Up

Yep, I can confirm Chicken is correct, hold the button down whilst moving and it does turn off, press again whilst rolling in gear and it fires back up Thumbs Up

Just for giggles, I tried turning my vehicle off whilst it was in drive. I hit the starter button and nothing happened. The car was still running.

Sorry, yes it is a manual and that sounds like what happened. I think I was trying to set off down the hill as slowly as possible, but the next 30 seconds or so were a bit of a blur as I concentrated on trying not to hit things. Hopefully they will cover this situation on the LR Experience course and explain the best technique. I feel sure that, in the right haands, the Freelander should have been able to get down there with far less drama.

Another advantage of the keyless system is that there isn't a keyhole for the local tealeaves to stick a screwdriver in. Having your car stolen overnight is not a nice experience. Big Cry

It's not necessarily better with a key. Having stalled a Transit on a steep snowy hill in Yorkshire I had to reverse it all the way down (about a mile). Couldn't start it. Eventually discovered you have to turn it off completely then back on again - seems the fuel cuts out on a stall. Now that is weird.

2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e S Manual Stornoway Grey

Needed some excitement the other day so tried to turn the car off when moving. One push only, no cutout. Second push, engine stopped. Also stopped if you pushed and held the button, but one quick push and everything still running. MY10 S TD4e in the best colour available, Stornoway Grey with go faster mud stripes.
