United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Tambora Flame

When I had a Disco II, I found out that the LR Assist engineers only worked "daytime" hours - if you called LR Assist at night they just contracted it out to the local garage who obviously didn't have the knowledge or equipment that the LRA guys had, so if it was a problem at home you were better leaving in until the daytime before you called them. Not sure if this is still the case.

The one time i have called them out they was great got the non start sorted.

I understand if you call LRA they are still obliged to give you a courtesy car if you can not get it fix at the road side whether they attend or not, I was told this when I collected my car, and queried the cover for caravans as obviousley i wouldn't have my car towed away and leave £14k caravan on the roadside.

If they don't cover towing, to say the Land rover insurance is supposed to cover you whether your on or off road, as they beleive they should be insuring you for what your car is capable of.

if the breakdown cover doesn't cover you for towing, when they rave on about the towing limits and that so many farmers have land rovers and they tow anything and everything all the time, I think they should provide the cover.

rant over.... Twisted Evil

Fuel consumption...
My I6 vs. my TDV8 is almost the same, may be better the TDV8.
More traffic in Mexico than Vigo; diesel vs. gasoline??? Don’t know!
Power and torque; I don’t wan to say that on this forum... I6 is not bad!! Yuri

thanks XE1UN for bringin the discussion back on track. i understand you can't really compare the torque of a V8 diesel with that of an i6 gasoline engine. the diesel wins hands down. all in all, it seems that the price difference between FL2 and RRS derives mainly from air-suspension, diff lock and low gear. am i right in this conclusion? 2007 Freelander 2 HSE i6

Sorry no contest, if you have the money for a TDV8 RRS then buy it. The Fl2 will be quicker through bends but that will be its only advantage. Superior ride, better off road, quieter, that is why there is a £20K difference D4 HSE Lux for me

it's more a question of value than money. when i first test drove the FL2 i also had a spin with the TDV8 RRS. honestly, the RRS didn't feel that much quieter or better riding. my wife thought that the FL2 was roomier in front cabin, a feeling which i also shared. what most surprised me was the plastic feeling in the RRS cabin. the difference between the cars in that aspect didn't justify the price difference. thus the word "irrational" in my craving for the RRS.

ps. my dealer said i would be back for the RRS within a year from the FL2 purchase 2007 Freelander 2 HSE i6

There is another important characteristics: DYNAMIC RESPONSE, BREAKS (BREMBO) and may be many hidden ones. But is true, FL2 is just a fascinating car and 20K lees!
Sometimes, when I have problems to park my RRS in Vigo (Typical north Spanish small city, PARKING PROBLEMS) Censored I feel temptation to change my RRS for a FL2, when I take the MOTORWAY...

Thumbs Up Really I am proud of my LR2 anyway! Yuri

Pros of the Range Rover Sport over the FL2:

- It is bigger and so gives you more space and room to move.
- Bigger boot. Some find the boot of the FL2 quite restricting.
- Air suspension. Not only gives the 'magic carpet' ride but can be electronically raised/lowered in various different circumstances.
- Looks - spec. it up correctly and the Sport can be an awesome looking brute... again...
- It's a proper off roader and is pretty unstoppable in the wilderness.
- Commanding view - the RRS seats you higher and the slabby windows give you a towering view.
- Engines - it offers the tremendous TDV6 and TDV8 engines.
- Handling - like a sports car.
- Seats - they're more like armchairs.

Pros of a FL2 over a Sport:

- Cheaper to buy, run, tax and insure.
- Drinks less fuel - better on the wallet.
- More agile round the bends.
- More compact - useful in town.
- Also looks very good.
- Quality of the cabin and trims.
- Apparently it's a better tow car.

They are really two very different cars aimed at two different markets. If you can afford the RRS then go for it - but you really want to aim for the sky and go for a higher spec model to make the most of it. "CY from DISCO3"

CY not sure why you think its a better tow car than the RRS as the latter can tow 3.5t compared to 2t. As I said in another post the tow car of the year was for new/modified models only -hence no FFRR, no RRS and no D3 D4 HSE Lux for me

Embarassed Was referring to the Towcar Award thread without even having read it... I stand corrected. Embarassed "CY from DISCO3"
