Engine won't start and car registers fob as in the iginition

Has anyone else had this problem with a freelander 2: I accidentally pressed the start button twice, so the engine started up but stopped within about 5 seconds when I accidentally pushed the button a second time. The engine now won't turn over at all. This had happened before, but always starts after a few minutes...not this time.

Also when I take the fob out of the ignition, the car still registers the fob in the ignition. This means I can't lock the car.

Land rover assist are coming out within the next 2 hours, but in the meantime, the car is unlocked.

Can anybody help me with this?

Try dismantling the key, and manually locking the car. Other than that I'm afraid I can't be of any help Rolling Eyes Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

I reckon they will disconnect the battery briefly to reset the system.

Hi ASM

Charge the battery up full. Sounds like one of these quirks that happen with a battery at less than 40% charge. It will crank the engine no problem, but the electronics can play up at odd times.

Charging the battery should always be the first step. From there you can search further if it will still be necessary. Thumbs Up With kind regards

thanks, will try the battery first. Annoyingly, after trying for an hour or so myself, it started straight away for the AA man! He didn't do anything different.

I think junior said he had this and his car was running with the key in his hand Confused

I would disconnect the battery, then hold the leads together, off the battery, Then reconnect and try again

It's what my dealer said was a hard reset of the system Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis
