These clutch problems just don't make sense Mad
We've had really bad snow, with up to -10 degrees and I've really pushed it through the deep stuff with more resistance than if I was loaded up with a caravan and not a hint of smell or clutch problem. So what the hell is it? why are some having this and others wandering what the hell they are talking about Confused

The Pug 4007 forum is full of clutch slip problems.
4007 is the same drivetrain as FL2.

CG,
Seems so. Dunno if L/R ever used stronger springs to ensure it self adjusts properly.

It seems on my model, the TD4e that part of the modifications for start/stop operation was to the clutch

Quote:
They developed a new heavy-duty starter motor, a new ring gear, a new dual mass flywheel friction control plate

I wonder if the dual mass friction plate is a key player in the improvement stakes Question

Don't think so, that's all a part of getting the starter motor to swing the engine to a higher rpm.

I have a MY10 which developed a bad clutch smell when it was 4 weeks old, it's worse reversing up a steep hill. I expected this to be sorted under warranty, my dealer referred it to LR and they reckon it's either wear and tear or I'm not driving it "properly". After numerous discussions/letters they won't approve investigation or repair.

My dealer is happy to investigate further but says that if a mechanical fault is not found ( ie loose bolt or missing spring etc. ) I will be liable for a bill of approx £700.

The clutch doesn't slip it just smells so I am going to have to live with it.

This is my first Landrover and even though I think it's a brilliant vehicle, due to LR's attitude it will probably be my last.

No, the DMF plate is used to remove diesel engine torque spikes and vibration, inherent because of their high compression and part of getting rid of that is the dual mass friction plate. Another site is saying that the car manufacturer is replacing this plate as well as the clutch.
Quote:
It is possible that the clutch wear is caused by a fault with the DMF (dual mass flywheel), which can develop play. This in turn can cause the clutch to slip, and the dealer may replace the flywheel with the clutch.

So maybe Freelander 2's have an inferior DMF and with the uprated one in the TD4e, has cured it Exclamation

Friday...and to the dealer to see about the smell and to hear that a new clutch will be required...under the warranty fortunately.

Until Nigel's last post I was going to say it was the brakes. Remember if you spin the wheels the traction control applies the brakes. I'm pretty sure the burning smell I have had once or twice was brakes, not clutch.
