Yet another snow topic: Lending a helping hand

On wednesday morning it was horrendous here in Derbyshire with people abandoning cars and walking. I felt great when I cruised through deep snow and up a hill past FWD & RWD cars that could not cope but then I thought about the help I can offer. A guy at work was worried about his elderley mum who was stranded in her flat so I ploughed through and took him there. Infact the bosses at work asked anyone with 4x4's to give colleagues a lift to and from work which I also did. Gives a nice warm glow knowing you have made someones life easier Laughing

Not suggesting its as bad here as scotland etc but we have had some deep snow 2 feet + (previously unheard of here) and i have re-named our town Narnia Laughing .

The small green trees in the below pic are 4ft tall so that shows the snow depth on my neighbours yard. My Dad's Audi remains buried in the 2nd pic and my FL2 after a hard days work in the final pic.

Great car (Driven sensibly) Thumbs Up

Well done, we should all try to help eachother whenever we can, I live near to you and local people can't remember when it was this bad, keep up the good work, just hope someone can help a Greenpeace member and change their opinion of Land Rover. Gone, 2007 TD4 SE Auto Baltic blue, clear side repeaters, full sized alloy spare.

Cheers mate. We are in good spirits on our street as we have all been checking on each other and helping with problems. Our neighbour helped us when our combi boiler packed up cos the outside pipe was frozen solid. Sorted now. We called it quits after I went to tesco in super bad snow and got him a kettle cos his had blown up.

What are you chattering about - never had snow so bad.....

Back in Derbyshire where I lived for 40yrs our family has witnessed snow depths of 5 to 6ft many many times and drifting of snow up to the bedroom windows in that particular bad mix of heavy snow falls and high winds (and no the farm house is not a bungalow!). Even snow in June which stopped Derbyshire's cricket match in Buxton!

Youngsters of today - all pants but no w*ll*es.

What are you chattering about - I agree it was worse years back, my dad remembers it. but I don't live in the peak district so it is the worst around here in my lifetime and my older sister etc.

Excellent Athelstan

I must say the old days of super snow must of been an awesome sight. My dad says it was unreal and that was around here as opposed to the mighty peak district places such as castleton. The news said they had closed winnats pass a few days ago. Must be pretty bad there. LL.B (Hons) - University of Derby

My Grandad told of the time in the 60's when holme moss pass was still closed due to snow in April...from November!

Funny someone should mention someone from greenpeace, last year i stopped to see if someone wanted a tow cos they were stuck, in a Prius.

Just as I was putting the strap on their car cos they didn't know how to do it Laughing they said 'you're stupid off roaders can be good for something then'

He was a tenner lighter by the time I pulled him out for that comment! Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Absolutely

But hey hang on a minute - I was a hippy and not all hippies in my day were in a purple eco haze, unless they were behind my Triumph T160.
