Hi.. Just to let you know it is definitely a Battery in the fob. One of my fobs was not holding its charge. I had a nearly new fob of my previously written off Fl2, so I asked if this fob could be re-programmed for the new car, and was told that they can only be programmed once. So I thought nothing to be lost, I carfully split the the old fob usig a stanly knife to see whats inside. It has a re-chargeable button battery, "VL2330" horizontal mount, soldered to the circuit board.
Having nothing to lose, I split the fob that was not holding its charge, and swapped the battery from my old fob.
I thought that it would lose its programming, but no, it still worked. ! so I glued the two halves of the fob back together with "Super Glue", and all is fine. (Probably not water proof, but it saved me £120 for a new fob.)

Looks like my fob has given up, showed no problems until this evening when I popped out and the cat wouldn’t open. Tried it a few times then got the spare and opened straight away. Popped the old one in the slot and the car started first time, drove around for twenty minutes or so , got out pressed the button and the car locked with only one flash of the indicator, fob is now dead again.
Car’s booked in for a service in March so will continue with the spare and see what the services chaps have to say

Don't suppose you took any photos of the internals by any chance...
...or still have the dead old one to photograph. I'm interested in the technology to see if the 'one-time-program' yarn is really true.

OK so I've washed and tumble dried my key fob. Embarassed It still works in that it will (when in the dash) activate start etc but will not hold a charge. Looking for a fix (as it's obviously not waterproof already (nor low heats setting on a a tumble drier proof) I've carefully split it (as per other post by ) and got the battery out.

I'm only finding 'equivalent' batteries for the Panasonic DL2330 and none of the listings confirm this a rechargeable battery. Anyone know how I can be sure they are as £1.20 is expendable but the time rebuilding and testing etc could be better spent if they aren't.

Cheers. Also available in Clean.

The battery is a Panosonic "VL2330" not "DL2330" and is definately a rechargeable battery. It is a horizontal mount, and the ones that I have found on the net are about £6. Here is a link to one I found earlier :-

I have got some photoes of my old fob for AndyT, but at the moment I cannot figure out how to show them on here! . I will have a play and let you know.
Ps.. As far as I can work out, the fob has two functions. Firstly the bit that opens the car, and the second is a proximity sensor, that tells the docking station it is the correct fob. I think that it is the proximity sensor that can only be programmed once.

There is no direct contact for charging the key. It is done by coils inducing a magnetic field which inturn will cause a current to flow charging the battery or capasitor or what ever there is in the hand set, just like your tooth brush

CG are you the only person in the world who has not got a electric tooth brush, Are yes you must be the exception. Your Censored then lol
For all you other people out there who get the idea, if you knew the voltage, charge rate etc it wouldnt be to hard to make a charging unit.
Failing that see if you could get the car docking unit at the local scrap yard, hook it up to a 12volt battery and away you go. There are more FL2 ending up for spare parts after crashes etc.

I do under stand the inductive charging in the key and toothbrush, Its possible on some electric cars to recharge the battery by parking in a special space with a coil buried under the car...and leaving it there for a long long time At work

Funnily enough I thought I'd better double check it was the battery and as it still held a charge I thought I'd resolder it in and clean the contact where the neg 'pin' touches the circuit board. Hey presto it works again. So super-glued it back together and it is so far working a treat. I'll relegate it to occasional use to keep it charged but treat it with a bit of suspicion form now on I think.
