My wing mirrors have been totally fine and smooth up until earlier today, this morning they were fine but this afternoon they started to judder / creak as they fold in.

I've done some search on the internet, and seems other cars suffer this too and suggested to avoid WD40 and use a PTFE lubricant. So that is what I did, gave it a good blast between all the cracks and moving bits. But its made no difference what so ever.

I did read one forum about an old Freelander 1 with the same problem and they ended up stripping down the whole wing mirror assembly into bare bits. Obviously I dont want to do this on a 11 month car.

Any suggestions I can try? or back to the dealers?

I had the same problem with my mirrors in the end they were replaced under warranty, just had a word when the car was in for a service. No more creaking or juddering

Hi, Your Problem is a problem many will have. What happens is that the lubricant drys out and causes the creeking and juddering you are now getting.
What you need to do is this.
1,Power the mirrors in then power them back out.
2,With both hands take a firm grip of either side mirror.
3,Gently but firmly push the mirror housing forward towards the front of the car,It wont want to go at first,you will hear a loudish click and then it will go forward.You will now think you have broken it but dont worry you havent.
4,Now with the mirror swinging lose between fully extended and fully forward towards the front of the car, gently work back and forth 6 -7 times then gently click back into position.
5,Repeat actions for other side mirror and this should cure your problem. If not repeat again but this time squirt in some silicone lubricant. Mines be fine ever since now about a year.

I use WD40. The only issue with it is oily residue which might run out a little but it did the trick.

Tried it last night, passenger side was perfect again, the driver's side needed a bit more work but all is well again.

A squirt of WD40 18 months ago and problem never came back.

WD40 may not be a lubricant, it is a water dispersal product. Silicone may be better.

It is a very good product for many things other than what it was marketed for, but do not expect it to replace the Oil Can as many folk do.

Her Ladyship's door mirrors (yes both of them) started to judder so violently on a road trip a few months ago that we thought they were about to shake themselves off and then they settled down again - and then they started again, so after a month of this I reported this to our LR Dealer when it went in for its first annual service just over two weeks ago. They said they were faulty and ordered new ones under warranty. Yesterday had an email confirming arrival of new ones to be fitted on Wednesday 8th December - I hope they have colour coded them correctly.......
