Norway 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Tambora Flame
-15C and will be needing a new battery....

So I'm on my second day without my car. It's -15C outside and the car just won't start.
It has several tries before the battery don't want any more, but no go. Big Cry
Not sure if it is the battery that is the problem or the glow plugs.....or anything else for that matter...
What I'm wondering is if it's possible to replace the OEM 80Ah battery with a say 85Ah battery? Will the charger\dynamo be able to handle it? I also know that on cars like BMW you actually have to have your car reprogrammed if you change the battery to something that has different values then your oem.

Any thoughts:?:

Standard Diesel emulsifies at -15...you need to be using winter diesel for any less.

Norway 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Tambora Flame

Battery swap is painless, done in 15 minutes, and yes, you can use a 85Ah battery but its overkill. What you really need is amps to start up the engine. Say 700-800 Amps.

If you have the black OEM-battery from 2007 (80Ah/700Amps made by Exide) its probably up for replacement anyway.

And its a good idea to get a small Exide or Ctek charger to top up the battery every now and then during winter time.

The battery is under constant stress from all the gizmo's that draines the juice of the battery in the winter.

Thanks for the comments guys. I guess the diesel in Norway is the winter diesel all season. Smile

Oscr thanks to you I'm now down to Sønnak Powerline SA770 or Varta Silver Dynamic E44. Both are 77Ah but close to 800amps. Anyone know which one is better?
I still have the black oem Exide battery so I'll make a change this week. Also thinking about getting the Ctek xs7000.
Will try to ohm the glow plugs following Alexs guide. If not I guess I will replace them with the NGK YE08. Who makes our oem plugs? FL2, TD4 HSE

Landed on the Sønnak Powerline SA852, 85Ah and 800Amps. Got a great price from a local dealer. Paid 130£ for it.
Hope it will be ok to go up on the Ah. Smile 100 up on the Amps is a great now that it's so freeeeezing cold. Also heading to Finland in a couple of weeks and they reported -37C..........
What should I look into before taking the car to those temps? Diesel filer? FL2, TD4 HSE

England 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 XS Auto Izmir Blue

The Varta Silver Dynamic E44 is a good fit, does the job and was under £80 so has now taken over from the old LR black one which was getting a bit tired. As the man said, an easy 15 min job to swap (you only need a ratchet & 10mm socket) - just had to reset the clock afterwards.

I wuhuuuuuued a little to early.
Engine still cranks good, but I am still having problems starting the car. Today it was -11C. Started on the 5. try in a cloud of smoke. Sad
The Finland trip is looking more and more like a rentalcar trip........ FL2, TD4 HSE
