@npinks, I hadn't realised that you had already driven for 2 miles, I thought you were sitting in your driveway on tickover. This morning I drove about 1 1/2 miles and my gauge ended up at the centre position where it stayed for the rest of my journey at -1 degrees outside.

Perhaps it is running cool or the gauge is inaccurate.

Your reduction in mpg is almost certainly linked to the low temperatures. The EM ECU leans out the mixture from information received from the engine temp sensors. And diesel engines take an age to warm up. If you reset your trip comp to zero before starting a cold engine and keep an eye on the mpg readout, you'll be in for a shock until the engine reaches normal running temp.

Nigel, I think your temp gauge is quite normal. Two miles is not nearly enough and at tickover in this weather i wouldn't expect the temp gauge to move much at all. All my diesel cars have been the same; my FL2 is no different. Yesterday, i travelled 6 miles before the gauge reached anywhere 'normal', albeit at low speeds on country lanes.

Seemed normal when I went out in it latest in the morning, I didn't spend time watching it as I was going to a funeral so had other stuff on my mind, buy I noticed it was at normal temp not long after driving

Mine did exactly the same thing yesterday when I was out in the garage with the kids Only I happened to have the bonnet up when I noticed it and it only lasted for around 30seconds to a minute.

It started fine and was running smooth (as smooth as to be expected when cold) and then I hit the prog button and you could hear the aircon pump kick in then shortly afterwards it started hunting (and I check the rev counter and it was identical to mr pinks video), it almost had the same sort of noise as a generator when under load so I am wondering if its just its way of getting charge into the battery or something??? This lasted no longer than a minute and then went back to normal

I'm not worried as otherwise the car is completely normal, and I think I only noticed it because I left it to idle when first starting it - otherwise if driving it I am sure I would not have noticed...
