2007 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Stornoway Grey

which towbar ?

just wondering which towbar anyone can recomend genuine or after market also which electrics main says genuine landrover i would like a detachable towbar but main dealer said wouldn`t be any good for the alko stabiliser on my caravan . any advice would be helpful

Welcome - FYI the Brink detachable is exactly the same as the LR one, so look for Brink
You will have no problems at all with your Al-Ko mounted stabiliser re operation, but when your coupling up and the lever is in the upright position it's only about 10mm from the bumper so take care.
Electrics - 12s/12n or newer 13 pin isn't a problem but once you have it wired up you will have to visit your dealer to get the car to accept the electrics i.e. show the flasher warning on the dash.

I fitted one of these http://www.towbarandtrailercentre.co.uk/in...uctId=1281 with the dedicated wiring kit, its the same towbar as Land Rover fit but cheaper.

The warning light on the dash works without having to visit the stealers, I turn the reversing sensors of with the switch on the dash. What if there were no hypothetical situations?

Pathetic CG, absolutely pathetic, probably goes back to your old school report which was covered in ''Must try harder''........ 92 minutes since nick f's post which clearly related to caravans.

Last year you would have responded in seconds (no doubt through some wizzardry technology the word 'caravan' is wired into your house alarm) - you've either accepted the fact that they have moved on from a box being damp and smelling of elsan fluid or maybe, just maybe your warming to them

2008 Freelander 2 TD4 SE Manual Izmir Blue

I've installed the Witter detachable towbar. Comes with electric wiring made the the German Westfalia (at least the instruction booklet is the same as the one sold by Westfalia)

The Witter towbar has the advantage that you don't need to cut any hole in the FL2 bumper.

I installed it myself.

If you don,t go along the LR dealer route can recommend Rotherham Towbar Centre who are Brink agents.
Regarding macphersons comment about the Alko handle being close to the bumper I always place a large sponge between that and the bumper when hitching and unhitching.

I also have a Witter detachablet towbar, which has proved to be excellent. I have a 2008 Bailey Senator caravan with the Alko stabalizer system and STC trailer control and it all works really well, with no problems at all. Can't think what the dealer was talking about. FL2 HSE Sumatra black with body kit

Hi Asinrute thanks for the coments did you use a witter dedicated electric wiring or a Lr kit and what do you think twin seven pin sockets or a single 13 pin socket my caravan has twin 7 pin plugs but i`ve seen a 13 pin socket on ebay which allows you to wire both the black and grey cable into one 13 pin socket

Mine has the Brink Detachable fitted as Mcphers has said no problems with the Alko hitch and without the LR dedicated wiring kit. Was your dealer getting confused with the fixed bar with the bolt on flange as to having to buy a seperate Alko ball to get the clearance required

If I was getting a bar fitted now though I may consider looking at the Witter bar as I am now on my third replacement Ball and Recepter which includes two this year due to known problems with the Brink detachable bar listed elsewhere on here and it's not as I am pulling much (Dent free Series 6 Senator).

First the tow bar and a single seven pin socket, Work was carried out by a Witter dealer and they didn't use a LR kit. Then a second grey seven pin socket was added later when I bought the caravan, again the fitting company just used their own wiring. As to 2 X 7 0r 1 X 13, I would fit whatever the caravan has, if you change your caravan you can always get an adapter.

All i can tell you is that my set up works perfectly with the Alko running gear on my caravan and I have had no problems whatsoever.
