Freelander 3 - when its likely to be?

Does anyone know when the Freelander 3 is likely to be in the showrooms, I seem to recall early 2013 being mentioned but anyone know for sure? (need to know if i need to go on a 2 or 3 year contract hire - if i stick with the FL2!)

The 'grapevine' tells me that RR will change first, then RRS, then D4. With this in mind, I'd say FL2 would be good for another 24-36 months at least, but may obviously get slight changes along the way as the 2011my did.

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Stornoway Grey

I was at the JLR factory at Halewood last week with work, and I asked this very same question.

Freelander 3 is scheduled to be launch in Spring 2013 when the '2' has completed it's 6 year product cycle. There are, according to the guys I spoke with no major changes expected on FL2 now for the rest of it's life span, the usual spec changes will always be reviewed year on year.

But the new car is going to have 5 or 7 seat options and the Freelander name possibly dropped. This is basically because of the American market, where the Freelander 2 is currently called LR2 in America, they can't use LR3 as this was what they called the Disco 3.

Ventura is a name that is currently being banded about for the replacement.

One large change that is apparently being looked at for the current FL2 is a petrol engine option. The Evoque is getting a 237bhp 2.0 Turbo 4 cylinder petrol (I don't know who's engine it is) but there is talk of releasing the same engine in the Freelander 2.

I think this would be excellent news, it will then compete with the Q5 2.0T which is a really nice car to drive. Freelander 2 HSE Lux 2013MY - Barolo Black with Ivory Leather. Alpine DVD - Privacy -Evoque 20" Dynamic Wheels and more to come.........

I hope they don't change the name to Ventura, Evoque and Ventura, what nasty tacky blingy pointless meaningless names. Both of them.

That rationale for changing the UK name for a Freelander 3 is very thin, yet horribly plausible!
Let the Americans have an LR whateveryoulike, or a indeed boringly mediocre sounding Ventura; but please let us have a Freelander 3!!

Re: Freelander 3

I disagree with the whole "ventura" naming convention. "It's a new LR so must pretend it'll be called Ventura"... People have been trotting that name about for the last ten years (along with "Highlander") Confused

Sorry NatWest

Sorry about that Natwest; I tried to use the "quote" button for my posting and it picked up the wrong quote. In the process of changing it, I failed to notice that the wrong person was now being quoted!! Embarassed It should have been Mav 71.  Life is not a dress rehearsal!
