Can anyone tell me what the auxillary heater does, and when it comes on can you tell. I am sure mine has one but I am not sure what it does or why I need it.

diesel fuel heater under the bonnet, its an extra on all models not sure if its even available in the uk


All fl2s have an electric heater in the vent system to help warm the cabin p on cold days, it starts automatically when needed. no user controls at all At work

Depends what you mean by auxillary heater. Some models for cold climate are fitted with a diesel burning pre heater that warms up both the engine and the cabin before you get in start it up and drive it off. I don't think this is available in the UK??

But the thing that is standard is the PTC heater - effectively a ceramic heater that helps to warm up the water in the engine and that in turns makes the cabin a little warmer a little faster!! The operation of this is automatic - no temp settings or button to switch it on. Not sure what temp it kicks in but no doubt someone will know. It does seem to make a difference on really cold mornings.

On cold mornings I turn the heater dials to full/hot but the heater fan does not kick in until the air is warm (take a good few minutes) does this mean I dont have the ceramic ptc?

I got the OEM Webasto. It kicks in at temps under 5-6 C.
It's not a parking heater just a helper for the really cold days. FL2, TD4 HSE

The PTC (positive temperature coefficient) heater is an electrical element which supplements the cabin heater. Fitted because diesel engines take longer to warm up than petrol. It draws a high current when cold and then tapers down as the engine warms up. It is entirely automatic in operation and was the subject of a recall on earlier vehicles.

On earlier British vehicles it seems. We didnt get the recall in Norway so maybe we have a different system? but never did find out if thats true or if it was production date relevent  2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.

I wanted the remote auxilary fuel burning heater but was told I couldn't have it & infact the dealers knew nothing about such a feature. Apparently unless you live in Russia you can't have it = A bid step backwards as FL1 had it. (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

No EV - FFBH is available in many cold climatic markets, the associated remote control unit also but its markets more restricted due to local radio transmission laws banning its use. For example, FFBH fitted here in CH but does not come with the remote control feature.

I got it here in Norway as well. Talked to Webasto and they say it can't be turned into a parking heater.  FL2, TD4 HSE

You are actually better off asking a question on here as I wasn't told this from Landrover when I rang them, in fact I can't even remember what they said it was so vague. When I first got the FL2 I had no idea what the puddle lights were so I rang up LR & the girl on the phone said - hang on I will ask someone from technical & the reply was they are the lights in the door mirrors. My reply was they can't be as those are called mirror lights  (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.
