Landrover dealer network computers

Is it true that landrover dealers do not record historical work carried out on a vehicle? For example, if I wanted to find out what has been done to my car (service, repairs, warrantee etc) could the dealer where this work was done not tell me exactly what was done, when and how much?

Talking to my selling dealer today I asked for all information of any work done on my car since new and I was told, 'nah we dont keep this info!!!' and yet when I had my BMW all this info was held on the computer and available when I asked... Am I being taken for a ride or is it true that LandRover have antiquated systems that dont allow this? Freelander 2 TD4 Auto, SE, Narvik Black, Alpaca full leather, Rear Headrest Entertainment System, 6 CD, 18 HSE Wheels, Privicy tints

Would of thaught they did. Rover group did this on their cars & Landrover was part of that group owning/designing the Mk1 Freelander & therefore would also have done this facility so would seem strange if it wasn't done now given everything has illegidly evolved! (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

Is there not a data protection issue here? i.e. providing info on a vehicle that wasn't yours at the time??

I've always been given info on a vehicle which has been serviced by a dealer or their predecessor. They just call it up on their computer. They don't seem to have info on other cars though - eg my current car, which was a trade-in at Marshalls but had been serviced elsewhere. They didn't seem to know anything except what was in the Service Book and, to be fair, this seemed to be reflected in the price. Marshalls did have a record of my last car on their computer, even though it had been bought 6 year's previously from a different branch of a predecessor firm and never been back since! I'd have thought LR kept central details on safety recall work though.

Hmmm interesting one... I know this is certainly the case for Jaguar. My wifes X-Type had a failed instrument cluster and we had to get a letter from JLR to underwrite the previous mileage on corporate stationery - so that we wouldn't have any problems with VOSA (during MOTs) or other dealers.....

All warranty work will be recorded on a system called DDW which any dealer can view. History relating to 'paid for' work will be saved by the individual dealerships. It is good business practice for dealers to keep this information on file, however when dealerships update their systems or change ownership then this information can get diluted or lost. The service book is the most reliable record.

I was shown the service history of a RR Classic that we sold from new and have maintained ever since which equates to £30,000! This must be where the term 'maintained regardless of cost' comes from.

Data protection does cover the vehicle, otherwise anyone could obtain your key number or locking bolt code! When issuing radio codes etc we ask for proof of purchase, a copy of the V5, and photo ID relating to the keeper on the V5. You cannot be too careful.
