I had this, think it took them 3 days in total, but over a weekend...

How many more people have had this problem?
This is not something I'd expect of any car with only 22,000 miles on the clock.

People - check your sump guard tray - especially if you're nearing the end of your warranty period.
Don't forget, you won't be aware of the leak until the oil starts to leak from the holes in the sump guard itself.
By this time, you may have already lost a litre+. Exclamation FL2 HSE Manual in Stornaway Grey

hello there.....yes i have had this same problem with an oil leak, found at its 60,000 service, a few months before the three year warranty expired, its a two day repair job. The problem is though its just been for its 75,000 service and the same oil leak has been found !!!!, only this time its out of warranty and the dealers want £1114 for the repair.....when I pointed out that the same repair had been completed only 10 months previously......they said that 12 months guarantee on parts only applied if the warranty had been extended ( ?? you wouldn't need the guarantee then as the warranty would still cover the repair!!) to be fair to the dealers though they are taking up the case with Land Rover for a contribution for the cost as the vehicle has been serviced by Land Rover. If it cannot be resolved then I will get quotes from other garages or sell the vehicle........I will keep you updated.........

Is there any update on what LR have done about this? I've got the same problem. I found a leak around a year ago, where the engine is mounted to the gearbox. I've just changed my oil and have found it's back again and there seems to be another one at the rear of the engine too. Nothing substantial yet, but there are visible drips.

It's booked in with the dealers next Thursday. I'll see what they have to say. If they try to charge me anything, I'm going on the attack. My car has done 32k miles. I don't expect to have any form of gasket failure at that mileage on a 3 1/2 year old car Censored

I'll update this post after the dealers have had a look Big Cry Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

keep us posted philsh, this is one of the concerns when considering keeping the FL2 beyond the warranty period.

oil leaks seem to be far too common in my view and it does make one wonder..................

Will do mate. I'm not impressed. If it was a 1985 Ford Escort, I'd accept, but a 2007 FL2 with a PSA Diesel unit............................ Evil or Very Mad Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

yes, I have a 1987 Golf GTI which I have had since new, and it's never had an oil leak.

granted it's only done 85000mls, but is over 23 years old !!

( and never once been back to a dealer even for servicing, I've always done it myself )

My car has been with the dealers for the past two days. I initially had a call from them to state they had steam cleaned the underside of the engine, but could not find a leak on the gearbox or engine. However, they just rang me again to state they have found an engine oil leak at the rear of the engine and this will be a major engine strip down Shocked

The gearbox gasket was replaced in May 09, but I think this is leaking again too. My dealers have been very good to me and have told me they will liaise with LR regarding goodwill contribution. This is a manufacturing defect, so I'm hoping LR will make a 100% contribution. I know they wont and I'll have another battle on my hands.

Those of you who have a FL2 out of warranty - I advise you take off the sump guard, as this appears to be a sump tray and hides a multitude of sins. Out of the 3 FL2's we've had, two of them have had angine oil leaks Big Cry

I'm expecting a massive bill next week, when I collect my car. I'm definitely jinxed with cars. Perhaps I should just abuse them and they may be more reliable Twisted Evil Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass

Update on my oil leak- LR wanted £1400 to repair the leak, they refused to make any contribution.....I went to a LR specialist independent dealer for a quote for the repair. They put the vehicle on a ramp and removed the sump protector.I then viewed the engine whilst it was still on the ramp. There was a very minor leak, there was no fresh oil on the protector and in the opinion of the independent specialist it was not worth repairing. So its a matter of monitoring the oil level. If any of you are faced with this issue out of warranty I would get a second opinion, or get the dealer to show you the 'leak' whilst is on the ramp.

Confusing or what........................... Confused

After initially being told the dealers were unable to locate a leak. I was then told, they found a leak. After steam cleaning the underneath of the engine, removing the sump, and the wiring harness (?!) at the rear of the engine, they have now told me there is no leak at all and the oil under the sump must have been from a spill at a previous service. Doesn't sound feasible to me, but I will monitor it.

They checked the gearbox oil level and that was fine. Oh well - I'll check it in a couple of weeks or so Thumbs Up Gone - TD4 XS Auto, Sumatra Black, Mud flaps and side strips, clear indicators, private plate, privacy glass
