United Kingdom 2011 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Auto Stornoway Grey
Thinking about coming back to the fold

Hi there, my first post but I have been lurking for a few weeks. I have had two previous Freelanders, or Hippos as the first ones were called, both were fantastic. The first was an ex demo XEDi in 1998 and I exchanged this in 2002 for a new TD4. at that time I was a member of the old FreelanderOwners forum and there are a few familiar names on here from that time.

In 2007 I was tempted over to the dark side by a new Honda CR-V as we wanted something a bit more car like. It’s very comfortable and economical but not fantastic in the snow. As we live in the Highlands of Scotland this is a very important factor.

After renting SUVs in the States I really want an auto this time as I really enjoyed driving them and found the experience much better than the auto boxes of days gone by.

As there is a facelift due soon I started thinking about changing before the end of the year if I can get a good deal.

I have been following the threads on the new model but I haven’t seen any mention of a couple of things I would like to know. I see that the SD4 is £1,000 more than the TD4 but apart from the higher power output and a few cosmetic changes do you get anything else?

As we all know DRLs are going to be mandatory on all 2011 manufactured cars but I haven’t seen any mention of these for the 2011 Freelander, what type are they, LED or halogen?

With the imminent increase in VAT I would like to take delivery before the end of the year, what are the delivery times being quoted at the moment?

Thanks for taking the time to read this and for any replies. Andyfr

DRL on 2011MY will be standard lights not LEDs like in the D4/RRS Sad

Andy,

We'd love to help, and I've just checked that we have some build slots which are 'spec changeable' before the VAT increase.

If you want to PM me your details then I'll get one of the guys to give you a call and talk it through with you.

James Thumbs Up

Thanks for the replies guys!

I've just picked up a brochure from the local dealer so will have a look through it tonight. We will have a look at our finances and when we know how much we have to spend will see if I can do a deal. We have travelled hundreds of miles when looking for the best deal as the local dealers tend not to move very much on price.

Cheers Thumbs Up Andyfr

Is the new Baltic Blue darker than Biscay Blue? Is that the one in the video? Andyfr

Not far at all if the M1 didn't have traffic jams Laughing

When I saw the video I thought it might have been Bali blue as the sometimes looks blue but is infact cadburys purple so I think it is baltic blue

Saying that the RRS advert looks a similar colour on TV and the concenous is that's Bali Confused Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Don't get many traffic jams up here, more sheep and cow jams!

I think that blue maybe just a bit too dark. Might have to play safe and go for Stornoway Grey. Andyfr

My original choice on my 1st FL2, great colour suits the FL2 very well, though some say black does too Wink

I quite like a little off the norm colours, i see loads of silver, greys and blacks round were i live, when i see the odd Red or Ip. Sand i think nice choice Smile whites there has become a few in the local area so not as exclusive

How about Lago Grey it looks Cool Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

We had a black car once, looked great when first clean but within a day started to look grubby. Quite like the look of Ipanema Sand but haven't seen one up close. May be going over to a dealer tomorrow to have a sit in the 2010 as I assume the seats will be much the same for comfort in the 2011MY.

The seats in our old MK1 Freebies were really comfortable so I'm sure they will be fine. We quite often have a 400+ mile journey so comfort is very important. Shame that there is no option for armrests on the GS as I have got used to them in the CR-V. I know I can get the Woods one so that is something I could get eventually. Andyfr
