Looks like the gearbox is an aisin warner, who seems to be owned by Toyota ......

Hope that your Freelander get fixed soon

Are we talking about the six-speed automatic? If so, I believe it's made by Aisin-Warner, which is Japanese and affiliated with Toyota.

A related transmission has been having flaring issues in the Camry V6 in the U.S., but haven't heard of anything like this. And I collect reliability info on thousands of cars. This sort of thing is rare, especially in a new car. Ford will definitely want to investigate. truedelta.com
