England 2010 Freelander 2 TD4_e GS Manual Biscay Blue
The Pyrenees and back

Hello all, boring post coming up..... but wanted to say how pleased and proud I am owning my 2010 FL2 GS TD4e, My family and I have just returned from S.France camping mostly in Aquitaine (Lit et Mixe) with trips to the Pyrenees (Gavarnie) Loaded with tons of kit 2500miles all in with temperatures up to 44 degrees, torrential rain, off road (sand roads through the Pine forest to reach the best surf) all with no problems at all... apart from the little one a bit cramped in the back..... so now need a trailer and towbar - any recommendations where I go for quality and value for money.....

also worthy of note, I proudly display my allegiance to Freel2, with my orange sticker in the back window, some Belgians stopped me at a campsite in Tours saying they owned a Freelander previously and read the forum.... small world, saw 3 or 4 other FL2's mostly Silver French registered and loads of Disco 3's Respect due!

Just a cautionary note that when you attach a trailer of any size whatsoever to the freelander you have a 90 kph maximum speed limit on french motorways instead of the current 130 kph limit.
This is because the car has a maximum train mass of 4505 kg and the new French regs state a limit of 130kph with a maximum train mass of under 3500kg and 90 kph over 3500kg.
This limit refers to the theoretical maximum train mass of the vehicle and not the actual train mass on the road. Evil or Very Mad

Obviously you can get round the towing speeds by getting a Thule bike rack that carries their back boxes (a big box that sits on it instead of bikes)

They look great if you just need a rad more space, no good if you need a huge trailer Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Idea Alternatively stick the LR "Luggage Box" VPLDR003 on top of your FL2. Idea

Of course to do so you'll need (if you haven't already got them fitted) LR's "Raised Roof Rails" LR006608 or LR007220 (if you have a Panorama Sunroof) and, the "Cross Bar Kit" LR002417.

Thanks for your advice regarding the roof box, but I have one of those long thin ones on one side and the surfboards on the other, but next year I intended taking bikes and an extra person so it definitely looks as though I need to 1) move out there, 2) buy a Disco4!!! (I wish) or 3) fit a towbar and find a decent trailer.

It was interesting to read about the speed limitations though, my average speed was between 110 and 130kph (average of 42.2mpg too!!)
Thanks for your help so far Respect due!

You would'nt want to see the wife!!!! Yeh.... I did try and resize them from 8mp I'll get my daughter to work out how to upload them! I know I'm biased but my FL2 looked the business, lamp guards, styling cover, Kamei Corvara roofbox and all the kit! Looked like we were kitted out for jurassic park!

Give me a couple of days for the photos Respect due!
