Jerky Cruise Control

On my 2007 XS TD4 manual, the passengers can't detect when I engage cruise control at motorway speeds. However, if I subsequently want to cancel it, by using the steering wheel mounted controls, it's far from smooth and has my wife tutting and sighing!

I have to admit that the disengagement of the cruise control is rather jerky at higher speeds. I've had a couple of Vauxhall's as hire cars through work recently and when the CC is disengaged on these, it feels a whole lot more 'cushioned' and there are no jerks or jolts.

How smooth are other FL2 owners CC's, when disengaged?

If the engine is under load when you deactivate the cruise control you will get a lurch, otherwise it is undetectable

If you apply some pressure to the accelerator pedal to slightly increase speed then disengage there is no lurch and Lady Penelope will be none the wiser! You are then of course free to decelerate as you wish!

Like Christian and Tandemman says, apply a liitle acceleration when dissengaging but if I dissengage when under load them I get the jolt.

Thanks for the messages. Doesn't seem like the best system. How come in what was otherwise a pretty awful Vauxhall Meriva, I could press 'cancel' on the CC whilst under load at 70mph and it released more gradually in a 'cushioned' manor, without me having to accelerate when I actually wanted to slow down?!! Confused

When I cancel the cruise on mine it's like I have just took my foot off the gas pedle and the car will start to gradually slow

Get a dealer to check the system it might have a bug Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I wouldn't say ours is a jerk...however...this could be the difference between auto and manual, ours and Pinks are auto's which could be why ours is smoother.

On our car I think it's a great system, smoothly applying power on hills and carefully taking off when going over crests. Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

I've had both auto and manual, and they seem to behave the same to me

Manual box - smooth cruise control action when activated or disengaged. It is an excellent unit; aids fuel efficiency, contributes to relaxed motoring and the avoidance of fiscally punitive Swiss speeding fines.

Not sure if this is any help but i filmed my speedo whilst switching cruise on and off at 50mph, shows there is no jerkiness and smooth deceleration and acceleration
