Oil Leak Problem

oil smell started 3 days ago, had the vehicle taken back into landrover via landrover assisstance, landrover told me it was a breather pipe problem which they fixed, took the FL2 home and whilst arriving home noticed the vehicle was over idleing just above 1000 rpm so the next morning phone up LR and took me FL2 back.
On the way to the garage noticed the smell of oil again so at the garage asked them to recheck the query oil leak. After a 2 1/2 hrs wait the service manager came to tell me that there was an O ring seal gone on the gearbox I am at the moment driving a loan car, pi---- off and have been told it may be 2 days before my FL2 may be fixed, cant beleive it.

FL2 GS 2.2 td4

13/09/2007 - Update from the LR garage today they tell me that the gearbox has been striped down and they found the leak which was an O ring seal on the gearbox, they had the wrong parts delivered and are awaiting the new parts, have to wait another day

14/09/2007 Gearbox put back in that was the good news, wait for it, a new leak found on the other side of the gear box and the gear box has to be taken back out, it will b tuesday the earliest b4 anymore news

17/09/2007 - Landrover called today with bad news again, was told that there was a plate needed for the gearbox, there were none in stock and they were looking to get the part direct from the landrover factory?????
Then told that they couldnot give me any indication on how long it might be before it would be repaired. Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry what am I to do ???

Parts availability is an issue, it has caused no end of problems for me. First was the failure of a hydraulic pipe on the clutch system, parts availability kept the car off the road for a week. That was back in January, the early days, so to speak.

However since then I’ve had problem with the radio/cd and the B post trims. The radio was fixed on the third visit (due to parts availability) and the B post trim has not been fixed after three visits (due to parts availability)

The next time it goes in for the B post job, will only be when the dealer can assure me that the ‘correct’ part has been delivered and is ready to be fitted.

I wonder how much of the 'changing' story you get is true and how much is a fob-off until they get the part you really do need??

First thing CJD is that you are recording problem date of notice to dealer, suggested repair/ time frame, excuses or truth for failure to repair. You would be hard pushed to get a buy back just becauase the dealer just cannot get the parts, unless of course you want your money back! If they are providing a replacement car in the interim it is argued that is reasonable....in the short term, after two weeks in the 'loaner' I would look to specify a time by which the car be fixed, suggest a week. You must slowly slowly catch the monkey. Don't get arsey, don't shout, polite easy mannered and controlled buy serious, not rude.

Ask the dealer, be honest, "can you not just get the part, or are you really finding numerous faults??"
If they keep repeat fixing the samr fault or reinventing new ones these still count. The more faults the better for you to. I went through about three months of problems, over eight which either never got fixed or kept re ocurring once fixed. Without any accurate records forget it though!!!!! So do not dream of a buy back or make yourself bitter to the car thats failed to date as if you start to hate it you will never want it back.

I would have been over the moon had my old car been fixed - honestly. The fact it wasn't gave me an opportunity to change a few things...but this was all in the hands of Land Rover and the dealer...they were not problems of my making so I sleep with an easy conscience.

Keep the records going CJD give them time and keep us posted. You could even 'suggest' that a buy back would be expected if they do not get things working 100%, rattle their chains a bit Cool

am being as patient as I can and have spoken to the assistant manager and told him bottom line that I am not prepared to wait another 3 weeks for the part to be delivered and I want resolve now ! He asked for another 48 hrs as he would be speaking to Landrover personally, I agreed and had a phone call yesterday saying he was promised the part today 27/09 ??

Not building my hopes up will keep you posted.
