Hi everybody!

Last summer I went with my Freelander on a holiday on a mountain area. Of course there were a lot of winding roads. I stayed for about 7 days and in each day I traveled about 50 km. I like very much this kind of roads (mountain roads) and I was driving a little sport style (using the brakes prety much). I have noticed a few times that the brakes over-heated (a little smell from the brakes), but I didn't give that to much importance.
After a few months, I have noticed that when breaking on the steering wheel it felt some vibration. Than I thought it maight have been from the brake disks. I have changed the front brake disks and also the brake pads (front and rear) and since than everythyng is OK.
Last month I've been on a trip also on a mountatin areea with lots of winding roads. Having the experience of last year I was carefull not to use hard brakes on the descent but still the brakes overheated (not so much this time) even having new brake disks and pads.

I want to know if any of you experienced this kind of situations. I want to figure out if it's my driving style and if I should go slowly on this mountain roads.

i don't have many mountains where i live, but on the country roads, if driving at a faster pace i have noticed brake fade

I don't think there is much you can do about it to be honest, especially in your situation as you need to use the breaks a whole lot more than me coming down a hill

I don't think one trip down the mountain should have lead to having to change the discs & pads though, how many miles had you done at this point  Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I have changed the old disks at about 42000 km.
With the new ones I have only 5000km.

I think ,if you say you had also this situation although not driving on mountain roads, this is the car's limit so the only solution is slow driving on this roads.

All cars suffer from brake fade in some way of another. I managed to cook the brakes on my Rover once after a bought of "spirited" driving and they suffered from warped discs as a result... Having had to replace those I decided to adjust my driving cos it was too expensive not to!!

I short if the brakes are getting hot, let them cool!! I don;t know if anyone knows if there are alternative pads available that are more resistant to fade. Hi Darling, I'll be home in 10 mins. If I'm not back, please read this message again...

It's possibly the car's limit.
If You really enjoy these kind of roads You're probably better of placing a towbar and buying a trailer (sorry CG )
Then buy the proper toy for these roads to put on the trailer!!

i suffered from fading brakes just with normal driving not so long ago

and CG posted that the brakes might have glazed over and to do a few hard braking stops

I did and it sorted it, maybe try the same

You have done 42000ks which equates to 26000 miles I had new discs and pads at 21000 miles or 33000ks, I think there is a thread on here where members have had lees than that.
