Heated Front Windscreen Fault

Forgive me if this has been covered. I did a quick search but drew a blank.

Question- Are the heated front windscreens covered by warranty?

At the weekend due to the damp weather and 4 people in the car, the front windscreen misted up. Having only recently purchased this 2 yr old FL2 HSE I tried the screen heater. 3/4 of the screen cleared quickly but a panel about a foot wide right in front of the driver did not. I am convinced there is a fault. I used to own a Ford with the same sort of screen and the whole screen cleared so I do know what to expect.

Has anyone had a similar problem and if so what was the Dealer's response? I am due to visit later in the week and it would be useful to have any help or advice.

Many thanks.

They do allow a few sections not to work, but I recon your should be replaced due to location of failed elements Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Thank you. I suspected it might not be plain sailing.

My next questions:-
Does anyone know how much area of the screen has to fail before it would be replaced?
Also how is the windscreen tested to determine level of failure?

Many thanks.

They are a bit picky if it's just a few lines/elements but I had about 10 or so out so it was changed for a new screen under warranty Thumbs Up . But they forgot to connect the electrics on the drivers side Big Cry

A foot wide section is good enough grounds especially is you play the safe and clear visibility card Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I didn't count the number of elements but it is roughly a foot wide. Will risk getting strange looks tomorrow and do a count.

If you screen is not working n/s or o/s it could be a fuse (fuse box next to the battery) fuse 34 and 35 (green square type) one dose the n/s the other o/s. Also watch out for the wiper linkage drivers side which can foul the driver side wiring, and cut though the wiring.

But If the screen looks like like a (Newcastle foot ball top) stripes the wiring to the screen or elements in the screen broken. ( new screen needed) If there no screen damage - stone chips etc., there should replace it. Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

I have had 3 screens replace (mainly down the Muppet's who were fitting it- fitted it WRONG. couldn't sort the wiring out) Big Cry
All sorted now ( No thanks to the main dealer Censored Censored )

2007 Manual. Have just had mine replaced under manufacturers warranty. This was to rectify a small area of delamination in top corner drivers side and also a couple of approx 3 inch wide heating elements not working again on drivers side. They appear to have done a good job of replacement. Auto wipers and lights work ok but have not checked heated screen as yet.

easy to check, get a hot cup of water (streaming hot) place around the dash board so stream cover the inside of the screen (Don't spill the water down the dash ???). Turn heated screen on, or just get in the car with wet hair with no heating on and wait for the car to steam up. The screen in the middle will take a little longer to clear. Thumbs Up

On my old Freelander I had the screen replaced under warranty after a couple of years. When I spoke with the service department after inspection but before installation I was advised that there were a number of small chip on the screen however they would replace it under warranty.

I was not aware of any chips although I may not have been able to see them and LR were looking more closely than I. What I think they were checking is if any of the chips were in a location that could conceivable have damaged the heating element therefore negating the warranty by being down to normal wear and tear. Worth checking. Simon
