Which oil? Mineral vs. Synthetic

Ours 2008 had last service covered by LR ( in US when you bought your 2008 LR2/FL2 it came with free maintenance up to 50K miles -scheduled services were at 7500 miles or every 6 months, so effectively the last service was around 37500 miles.

Now I have a dilemma-should I continue usingl 5W-30 mineral oil and change it every 3K miles/3 months, or start using synthetic oil. I asked the service advisor if synthetic can be used in LR2, and he said that " untill 2010 engine seals in LR2 were not designed for synthetic oil, so the engine could leak if syntheric oil is used, and after 2010 seals were re-designed..."

I wonder what you guys use in Europe?

thanks

When i bought the LR2 I asked one of the service advisors which oil is used in it and he said "they all use synthetic". Brought LR2 for the first oil change after 5K miles, and was told by another service advisor that LR2 used mineral oil, the avisor I asked before was not there anymore...
If I knew I would bring LR2 for the 1st oil change after 3K miles, not 5k...

things may be different in the states ?

my 25 year old Golf GTI was always run on Castrol GTX mineral oil, but even that is now run on semi-synthetic.

Iain,

Thanks for advise- I did not consider semi-synthetic before reading ypour post.

I am planning to do oil changes myself from now on using vauum oil extractor. It helps that oil filter is easily accessible on LR/FL2
