Just about to buy a 2008 Diesel SE Auto - any advice

Hi - I'm about to buy (privately) a 58 plate SE with 12.5K on the clock. I know my way around cars but I'm a newbie to Land Rover - any advice please ?

Also, what are they like to own, especially the warranty & running/parts/service costs ? Thanks

The FL2 is a good car. As well as all the usual checking for damage, rust, repairs, uneven tyre wear, pulling, paperwork etc - just make sure absolutely everything works as it should - try every switch, lever, gadget etc.

I would also suggest you get Iain from Offroad Essentials (known on these forums as 10forcash) to check it over. He comes from down your way and will travel out to you. He will flush out any warranty issues so you can get them dealt with. He can also service it for you - properly! Taking it to the dealer will not always achieve the same as many work on the basis that they will only address safety issues or those raised by the customer - they will not look/test for problem - apparently that's LRUK guidelines - this is where Iain can help. Whatever you do avoid Stratstones! But equally I have found Duckworths and Lakeland (even Yeovil) to be good but they are all a bit away. In my experience the Warranty is very good but only as good as the dealer you are working with. If they cannot or will not acknowledge the fault then it is uphill all the way. Better driving a few miles to have a good dealer to have the problem dealt with properly.
There is a good framework of non LR specialists who offer amazing support and technical knowledge often making the dealers look like amateurs.
I am in Doncaster and have had a Disco3 auto for quite a while now plus a FL2 auto a bit more recently (bought privately and given a clean bill of health by Iain).
Hope this helps
