I can not see the point in buying 2 bags

unless the contents of 1 bag will not be sufice between stops on your roadtrip were you could restock from a fridge with cold products Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Being of low dimensions, I believe that the power consumption of one of them is no more than 50W.
Both 100W. This mean approximately 9 Amps.
The generator/alternator on your car, if you don't have heatead front windshield is rated at 150A.
If you do have heated windshield the generator is rated at 180A.
So, I believe that when running, the car/generator can cope with a load of 9-10 A more.

I agree with Alex (and CG occasionally) when on the move the sysytem will easily cope with the additional load.

Just remember to unplug the rear one if you stop the engine for prolonged periods - ie several hours.
Probably safer to plug them both into the front socket on a splitter, it should take a 10A (120W) load comfortably.

When it comes to colour can you imagine SWMBO response when I told her WE were replacing our black with cream interior Freelander with a bright orange one Cool -- and then the stickers appeared Exclamation Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Thanks for your welcomed comments. Drinks and ice cream are the items being demanded by mum & daughter so I plan to load them straight from the house fridge/freezer. I'll throw in some of those "freezer packs". This morning at the supermarket I noticed a new "product" (new to me) that being a version of Tupperware which is double skinned, and within the cavity there is a quantity of blue freezing fluid. Should help keep the snarnies cool too Wink

The female mind works in strange ways sometimes. Perhaps she was thinking of transporting some spare body parts in case I needed replacements on our journey. She is after all, a Doctor of Medicine and operates almost daily, and, the route I've planned is circa 85% mountainous byways n tracks. So hospitals and restaurants are few and far between. Thank goodness the TD4-e FL2 does 800kms per tank full. Very Happy

Alex
Yep the "Newport" is fully Swiss winterized and has a heated front screen, although I'm 99% certain that in July the Swiss/French & Italian Alps and the French/Spanish Pyrennes will make no demand on its heating element. The A/C will be working hard though. I also don't expect her ladyship to switch on her heated seat - but I'll keep an eye on her just in case. Having said all that I am grateful for your superior knowledge of electronics and power demands - don't want a fully discharged battery in the lovely "Parc Nacional D'Aigüestortes I Estany De St.Maurici". Thanks for the reminder to unplug the one in the boot - noted. Cheers Whistle

I can imagine - close to Armageddon: twisted:
The Ipanema Sand / Terracotta leather FL2 Newport is her ladyship's so I cann't kick up too much of a fuss about colour coded cool boxes/bags. The other shopping item she came home with yesterday was 2x picnic blankets, each individually cased, yes you can guess: in a terracotta leather carry cover Arrow

Arrow and I'm still charged with replacing the black hand brake and manual gear lever gaiters with terracotta ones. Problem is that I need a set of old black ones for the leather worker to make a pattern from. I don't want to buy a new black set just to make patterns from, or, to send our existing ones to the leather chap in England. Anyone got any spare or know of a breaker who's got some Question

Out here in Western Queensland Engel's are the popular unit. Commonly seen in the back of work utes and recently reported as the most common stolen item from the back of a ute.

As a comparison for internal temperatures of vehicles in summer they can hit 60 to 70C and beside melting your dash have been know to explode gas cigarette lighters if they are left on the the dash. Cool

United Kingdom 2007 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Manual Stornoway Grey

can these coolboxes be packed into a fairly full boot, or do they need space around them to work properly?

Any views on the ones from Halfrauds?

My cheap one from Halfrauds has been fine for four years or so. It does have a fan so needs some air circulation - I imagine that's true for them all.

They take heat from the inside and shove it outside, if there is nowhere for it to go they all stop working I am afraid.
Both types will need ventilation.
Coolbags that rely on freezer packs don't need ventilation as the heat is being transfered into the thawing ice packs Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

POST SPANISH ROAD TRIP UPDATE

After 4,005kms at outside temps between 6°C and 42°C I can confirm that the FL2 can handle comfortably both the cool boxes plugged in and running hard.

The A/C was working concurrently - and - headlamps on at all times when on the move. No evidence of battery drainage. And yes I did follow the advise of those members who warned me not to forget to unplug them on overnight stops.

Many thanks to all who responded to this thread constructively. Thumbs Up

I like the idea of this Waeco 32l,the one with the deep cycle battery built in,won't drain the battery and its portable,

Also got this Coido cordless air compressor & recharcheable 12-volt power supply, rated under 15 amps.

A few options to consider,it all comes down to price.
