Can anyone say if they have ever achieved the claimed 49.6 m.p.g. for the stop/start Td4e? It would be good if there were real world figures published and not pie in the sky ridiculous claims. I can never get more than 39 - 41 even after trying different fuels. I have an 09 plate, 2010 MY XS Td4e XS (NAV) with xenons and 18" HSE alloys. The car was previously owned by Land Rover U.K. until i bought it from Stratstone Land Rover in Swansea at the end of February, no finance, just a part ex and cash to make the difference. My issue with Stratstone was when i asked there branch in Hanley if they could fit an iPod kit (LR Part No. VPLFE0002) to it. They refused to sell one so i asked LR and the technical department said this kit was suitable and there are no known conflicts with the car as what was Stratstone's excuse for not selling/fitting the kit.

I eventually bought one from Beadles Land Rover in Sidcup and Shukers LR in Shrewsbury agreed to fit it. They even cleaned the car inside and out. They (Shukers) were a totally different outfit to deal with compared to Stratstone and Shukers know the meaning of customer service. I have heard from Land Rover about Stratstone refusing to do work and it appears someone has got to answer to LR when they knock on Stratsone's door.

The iPod kit has worked perfectly since so perhaps the service people at Stratstone ought to find a job they might know something about.

The car has had it's first service at Stafford Land Rover with no issues at all.

So, if anyone can help on the fuel economy problem please reply.

Since posting this i noticed people have said the 49.6 m.p.g. is for the extra - urban cycle. Even if you try to copy this cycle it is still impossible to attain this figure. Also, has anyone had issues with Stratstone? Thanks for all the help.

49.6 mpg on a long run I get 43mpg but short runs 29-31 mpg mine is a 2010 TD4E If I had all the money I spent on Beer!, I'd spend it on Beer!.

Only ever got to 40MPG once & that was on it's one & only long run I have done in it - generally around 31MPG. (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

I have had my XS TD4 since march and never been under 35mpg. My best was 45mpg but that was on a 4 hour trip.

I thought that the fuel economy figures published by the manufacturers are based on standard tests, these actually bear no relasionship to real life driving.
What they should do is give a level playing field so that all published figures give a "fair" ratio ie if car A says it should achieve 30mpg then it will use twice as much fuel as car B that does 60mpg.

Very sure I have never achieved anything like the published figures on any vehicle that I have driven. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

My 2010 TD4e GS manual averages somewhere between 32 & 35Mpg on normal day to day driving, and on long runs seems to be able to reach 40-42mpg or thereabouts at motorway speeds.

Never seen 46+ however....!

I think you will find the published figure is 42.2mpg combined for the 'e' up from 37.7 mpg on the non 'e' models, not 49.6. If 49.6 is actually the correct figure, then my car must have a completely different engine in it! Like most people on here, don't get the published figures. Short journeys kill the economy, generally mine reads 30mpg as a lot of short stop start journeys. Did a motorway run today and had it up to about 36mpg by the time I got home. Think it might be loosening up a bit as got 6K miles on the clock now.

I thought the TD4_e was 42mpg too,

i have been able to achieve that if i drive like a saint. but i mainly average 37-39mpg on my average week. Higher on motorway runs.

tonka Is spot on. my 07 plate dose the same, and 27ish towing the van,
