Volcanic sand and ash

Recently in Guatemala, there was a volcanic eruption which led to sand and ash falling from the sky. I was driving while this was happening and the next day when I was cleaning my FL2, I opened the Air Filter Element and found there was sand in there, and also there was some sand stuck on the Filter.

Since that day, I have felt some loss of power, especially on low revs, and I have the suspicion that some sand might have gotten in the turbo. Is that possilbe? Did anyone else experience this with the volcano in eruption from Iceland? 2008 Freelander 2 Td4 HSE Buckingham Blue

I doubt it would have gotten through the filter, well only the tiniest of particals

more than likely the filter is clogged, so restricting air flow, there only about £8GBP Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Your turbo will be fine as it is exhaust driven. you should replace your air filter and your pollen filter as soon as possable. Restricting airflow to the engine will only lead to loss of power and greater fuel bills.
