Could someone please tell where the tap is to drain the sedimeter on a TD4?

I think you might just be looking to drain any water that may of collected after the first year of a new diesel filter being fitted, if so heres what you do. After removing the engine cover you will see the fuel filter on the left hand side of the engine bay. Its located behind a steel crash impact sheild.
As you look at the filter from above you will see 4 snapp fit fuel lines connected to it. look at the right hand side of the filter, there you will see a ALLEN KEY type plastic screw head. By turning this several full turns any sediment in the diesel filter will drain out below the filter housing. The work shop manual shows a small drain away tube fitted but on mine there was none fitted. If you are going to drain it and not replace it then best to take the engine undershield off and place a large try to catch any sediment and diesel that comes out

There is landrovers own workshop manual which is a subscription based access, you pay by the day or week etc, you have to register with them but thats free. Heres the link, have a look. www.landrovertechinfo.com At present i dont know of any other that is available. Hyanes manuals dont have one out yet as i have inquired with them. Hope this helps

Thought I would try draining my sedimentor - done it many times on other diesels.

But I found it impossible to get anything underneath it to catch the fuel +/- water. There is no space. I cant even get my hand in to be able to touch the underneath of the filter unit or attach a tube.

In the end I stuffed a old towel in the general area under filter. Undid the screw on top with an allen key to it . There was a loud gurgle but no fluid came out - very odd. Do you need to pull the screw all the way up to the limit of the plastic captive device ?

Any thoughts ?
The engine started OK.

If there isnt any easier way to drain the sedimentor then I suspect garages dont even bother to attempt it. Jules

ive found that when trying to drain filters working on breakdowns,vacumn holds the fuel in so I have to remove a pipe,but you will lose all the fuel and have air in the system after.
