Duplicate phone address book entries

Hi,

I have just paired my Sony Ericson W580i with the vehicles system.

For some reason the address book on the car screen has many duplicate and in some cases triplicate entries for the same contact. My son thought it might be recognizing land line numbers as well mobile numbers but the telephone numbers are exact duplicates.

I would like to find out what I've done wrong so that I can correct and make sure it doesn't happen again.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Also used the PIN number given during setup. Have just downloaded a Handbook Supplement which instructs me to use the 2121 PIN number. Do you think this has something to do with my problem?

Regards,
AndrewPRD

Hi I had the same problem as you when i paired my phone with fl2. The problem was that i had coppied phone book to car but for some reason i kept pressing the pair button because i thought it hadent worked. This inadvertantly duplicated my phone book several times. I just deleated it all and started again. The car will send a pin number to your phone, once the phone has been logged to the car dont keep adding the phone each time you want to connect. just select connect. Thumbs Up

Thank you for the advice I tried what you suggested and removed phone. I re-established bluetooth careful not to be impatient but alas it didn't work. I have the same problem with many of my phonebook entries in duplicate or triplicate. Not happy.

I have waited and saved for three years to be able to afford this car (2008 HSE). I have had it for 10 days and I am rapidly becoming disillusioned for I seem to be having one problem after another. The car has only done 18000 miles. I have it booked in to my Local Land Rover Dealer next week. Won't go back to the dealer I bought it from.

Sorry to moan.

Thanks for trying to help.

Regards,

AndrewPRD

I know its a real pain when things go wrong. I do remember reading a thread on here about a landrover website which lists all the phones that work properly with freelander 2. Some phones just wont work properly, try asking landrover if you vehical has had the latest software update best of look

does the LR website say its a fully compatible phone?

My iPhone shows 3 numbers but they all have the same name, but trial and error to find the correct one to dial,

I now just dial from the phone held in its mount Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

Still having problem duplicte address book entries on Landrover's Screen.
Here's what I've done so far:-
Checked with Garage. They say that the Cars system is working properly.
They also confirm that my Sony-Ericsson W580i is compatible.
They also confirm that the Car's software is up to date.

Have cleared 'Landrover' from mobile phone and deleted phone from Car's Memory.
Re-established connection but phone numbers still being duplicated.

Have cleared and re-saved address book to sim card thus removing any old entries.
Then repeated the above process and the same thing happens.

The duplicates are indentical numbers and not 'Home' 'Office' etc.
The only clue is that on the Landrover screen the duplicates are slightly abbreviated
e.g.
Freddy Fisher Mbl
Freddy Fisher M...

Any ideas anyone?

Ive just been and checked mine and where i scroll through the phone book, lets say i come accross a friends name where i have mobile number, home number and works number it comes up with his name three times and im not sure which number im calling, its realy frustrating so as npinks has said i just find the number on the phone, set the phone calling and use the cars controlls from there on.

Regarding your phone book problems,it seems the car downloads the phone book from your "sim card" not your "phone memory". Names in your phone memory address book with multiple numbers under one name will copy to your sim as a list of names. For example a Phone memory book entry "Ian" with Ian Home, Ian Mobile, Ian Work as sub entries will come up as seperate entries on the sim card and download to the car as Ian1 Ian2 Ian3.
My solution was to edit the names on my sim card from 1,2,3, to Ian Home, Ian Mobile, Ian Work and thats now what comes up on the car display.
Its a bit of a pain editing your sim address book but its worth it you then know if its a eg. home/work/mobile number.
Hope this helps it worked with my Nokia 6300. 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4.Zermatt Silver,Privacy glass,Bi-Xenon headlights........Gone!

Thank you both.
Early on I did think that the duplicates had something to do with the different numbers stored under the same contact.
Ian,
I have already done something like you suggested. My Contacts numbers on the SIM card are stored separately.

No one can explain why my contacts which simply have one phone number immediatly get duplicated on the Landrovers screen. As explained before, I have cleared the Car's memory and unpaired the phone, re-established the link and the duplicates return.

To repeat there are two clues:
# Not every contact gets duplicated.
# Many but not all single number contacts get duplicated and the duplication on the screen is very slighty truncated eg.
-Freddy Fisher Mbl
-Freddy Fisher M...
Clearly there are more important things in life. I will eventually 'Get a life' !! When I have solved this.

Many thanks.

I don't have any contacts on my sim, only on the phone

I have a iPhone 3gs, onces you have done this if it works, select that the car doesn't auto update the phone numbers Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I haven't got access to another FL2. Dealer will not be happy me playing around with their cars.

Not tried another phone. Good idea if only to confirm that its a phone issue but does this move me any closer to a solution with my phone?

Not tried deleting Sim Card Contacts. Good idea. Will try this later today.

Thanks again for all your help.
Hopefully my next post will be the solution.

Regards.

Sorted,

npinks your suggestion has worked.

Here's what I did
Deleted MyPhone on Landrover Screen.
Deleted Landrover from mobile phone.
Deleted all contacts on Sim Card. (npinks thanks)
Re-established bluetooth and would you believe it. No more duplicates!!!
I also switched of automatic phonebook updates because Ii then copied my contacts to Sim Card.

Thank you all once again.
