17" or 18" wheels ?

What is everyone's opinion on wheel size ? I've ordered an FL2 XS with the standard 17" wheels, and was pondering if I should have gone for the 18" wheels ?
What are the pro's & con's for each size ?
Thanks ! Bow down

18's every time. I've been with 19/20' alloys for the past few years and it is a joy not to crash aroundon the UK's horrendous road surfaces.

Maybe the first practical question would be: where did you mostly use the car? On-road or off-road?
Because if you use it on-road, only for the looks, 18.
If you use it off-road on a regular basis, then 17 is the best choice.
For example, I've bought it with 18, but when I go in the wilderness, I really miss the 17 size. And I go quite a lot.
When in car, you don't see the wheels, isn't it? But you certainly feel the road...
So in the end, the choice is yours: comfort or looks? Laughing Thumbs Up

So 18" for the looks, 17" for a more comfortable ride (on roads) ?
What about tyre costs - any different ?
Thanks again !

Yes; you are right. But 18”s has comfortable ride also and you can increase performance changing pressures. Anyway it is true; if you have plans to go off road often, 17 are the way. Yuri

Thanks for all the replies - I am mainly sticking to the roads, and prefer comfort over the looks and additional cost of the 18" wheels - so I think I will stick with the 17" for now. I can always get some 18" wheels for xmas from Mrs UB !! Wink

It seems its currently cheaper to get new wheels and tyres from ebay/certain LR dealers than to re tyre your existing alloys so dont worry to much about tyre prices.
But this is mainly due to LR dealer shifting stocks of alloys and these bargains may dry up. I changed from 17's to 18's and noticed no major difference in ride/handling .
The 18's do look much better than the rather odd design of the 17's I feel.

If you like knock off wheels AD547659047609 knows where to get them Whistle , I do not approve of such actions however Evil or Very Mad At work

It's all a matter of personal taste. Still think the the 18" HSE alloy's suite the FL2 best. The 19" shadows are fine as well, but those sparkely ones and the half painted ones look "too much" for a 4x4 unless you like tarting up your drive. If you go off-road then 17" or even better 16" (not for the looks).

Dont need to mention which alloy's have least appeal, if its looks you are going for. However there are those on this forum that seem to be happy with them Laughing 2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.
