Australia 2008 Freelander 2 TD4 HSE Auto Zermatt Silver
Selling my HSE Auto

Hope I'm not breaking any forum rules by posting on here...

As I'm emmigrating to Australia I need to sell my 57 reg Silver HSE Auto, looks like I'll have to settle for an X-Trail or similar there as they're so expensive down under.

Can anyone suggest the best way to get as gooder deal as possible for it?

1 Owner, UK main dealer supplied, December 07 (still under warranty)
Zermat Silver/Black Leather/Pixel interior
38,000 Miles
Auto
HSE, standard
Fully Serivced

In good all round nick, WhatCar valuation comes out at £19,850 private but I'm open to reasonable offers.

If anyone knows someone who's in the market please PM me.

Thanks,

Mike

Why give up the Freelander?
The Aussies drive on our side of the road, the cars out there don't seem to have any thing different to standard - apart from the fact they can't spell Vauxhall so call them Holden.

We were there last year for a driving holiday, far higher % of 4x4 than UK, and in general larger engines.

Actually cheaper than you might think. 'Deck cargo' (not as bad as it seems) will cost about as much as the buying and selling costs, plus you get to keep a v nice car.

Go and ask Tim in Scotland (RRS forum),he drives big container boats, might be able to point you in the right direction 2010MY Freelander 2 HSE Auto

Shipping seems to be around £1500 -£2000 and taxes on top. Found this info on duties/taxes - hope it helps

If you have a more expensive car then there is an extra tax to pay, luxury car tax (LCT) which is set at 33% above the threshold - currently $57180

It works like this:

An example of how the LCT is applied is shown below:

Customs Value= $50,000.00

Customs Duty = 10% x CV= 0.10 x 50,000= $5,000.00

T&I (transport & Insurance) = $4,500.00

VoTI (CV+Duty+T&I)= 50,000+5,000+4,500=$59,500.00

GST = 10% x VoTI= 0.10 x 59,500=$5,950.00

Sub Total = GST + VoTI= 5,950 + 59,500=$65,450.00

Remainder = Sub Total - LCT Threshold= 65,450 - 57,180=$8,270.00

LCT Payable = Remainder x 10/11 x 0.33= 8,270 x 10/11 x 0.33=$2,481.00

TOTAL TAXES PAYABLE (Duty + GST + LCT)= 5,000 +5,950 + 2,481.00=$13,431.00

And that is just the taxes!!

Yes, we looked into shipping it out but it just doesn't stack up financially.

As npinks suggested I took it to the local dealer, whatcar valuation was $19,500, they paid me £20,000 on the nail, can't argue with that so took it.

Its been a great car and I'd gladly have another, but they're so expensive down under I fear I'll end up buying an X-trail, either that or just blow too much money on a Disco Twisted Evil

Thanks all for the advice and for a great forum, we fly to Sydney tomorrow.

Mike
