2010 Paint issues...

I've recently noticed on the passenger side of my grey freelander that the front door is much darker than the back door.

I took it back to land rover to check and see what they make of it. They agreed and wanted the car to be booked in for a week for testing and then possible respraying of that side!

What do you guys think? I'm not to happy for the car to be resprayed its brand new!!!

help!

Sound like it's been resprayed to me

all too often they get a mark between the factory and the dealer

my wifes car has overspray in side the door handle and my paint thickness gauge shows quite a few microns difference between that door and the others

obviously nothing said to us by the dealer, but they did match it perfectly

see if you could take a measurement yourself, if you know of a proffessional car detailer/bodyshop they might take a quick reading for you for a few beer tokens Former Mod/Member, with the most post & Chicken George Arch nemesis

I would concur with NP - see if you can verify independantly that it has been resprayed/touched up and not sure but you could have a claim against the dealer for mis representation. A little leg work now could put you in a very strong bargaining position. MY 09 GS manual in Lago Grey, Wood Co arm rest and side bumper strips - now sold.

Agree, check the paint thickness. Loads of cars get damaged, they will just have to get it sprayed to match. It's their issue. Sorry to hear, hope you get it resolved asap. 2010MY Freelander 2 HSE Auto

I agree that if it has or will need resprayed I would not be happy.

One of the reasons you buy a brand new car is just that...........ie brand new !!

A car that has been resprayed is never the same as the original factory finish no matter what anyone tells you.

if your not happy with the outcome ask for a replacement car or your money back.

I suspect as in the case with many new cars from most manufacturers it was damaged on the trailor or at the dealer & then painted before customer collection. Trust me in my job I hear this numerous times - BMW being far worse than most!!
If it was mine I would dump it at the dealer & tell them to give me a new car. I made the point when I collected mine that I was to inspect it as soon as was possible when it arrived & I did! (Past) Freelander 2 HSE 2010 MY In Rimini Red.

Thanks for the replies guys!

The cars booked in for its week long tests and spray.

I have told my dealer that I would like to reject the car, which there reply was see how this turns out and if I'm not happy then we can contact land rover for a rejection. Which I think is fair enough?

Message for stownrow re paint quality

Fl2's are repaired at halewood as well as at the dealer before sale. Not a 100% process for any car maker. May been repaired at dealer as factory quality spot on due to checks. Ask dealer was it a panel or smart repair to get them on the back foot. Big dif between the two. Live your life be free-lander

smart repair is a man in a van giving it a quick spray over, panel repair is a proper factory paint job At work

Panel repairs at halewood.

If a panel needs repair 1st choice is to replace with a painted panel. Doors, fender, hood, tailgate easy to do. Elsewhere respray. The problem the op has caused by the man in a tent the dealer uses to repair transit damage. Just my 2p worth. Qc at halewood wouldn't allow a 2tone car to leave. Any1 can see it even an untrained eye. Live your life be free-lander

Sorry to put a downer on all your beliefs about new cars, approx. 25% are either repaired at the factory, the docks, logistic company or the dealer before they are sold. Just a fact of life.
I know because my company undertakes such work on behalf of Motor Manufactirers and Dealers.
As long as its done properly, by a bodyshop, not a man in a van it should be impossible to tell the difference.
Unfortunately some dealers, salesmen, use the men in vans to repair transit damage before delivery to customer, mainly because they do not want to lose their bonus, and a proper job at a professional bodyshop will be costly due to the processes, equipment ,materials used and trim removal.
There is no way a man in a van can reproduce manufacturers standards painting on the side of the road in a tent in uncontrolled temperatures.
I would imagine this is what has happened to your new FL2
