Chris,

Thats extremely helpful thanks. We have removed the gearselector and put it back successfully. (it required a yank after twisting the catch)

However, (I'm not sure if I inherited this when we bought the car) but the lever that releases the selector from 'P'ark to 'D'rive is not effective, namely I can slip the lever from park into drive without depressing the switch - did you have this problem? any idea how to fix it?

Sorry I can't help as I have a manual not an automatic, however I am sure there are enough automatic owners on the forum that maybe able to help.

George, thanks for this. I have had the console out to fit the rear screen kit and it seems to be a plastic rod inside the main metal gear stick itself that should be on a spring which pushes the rod upwards, the rod however is not springing back, hence the lever on the knob being unproductive. Is it more complex than that in your experience? Many thanks.
