Off the road problems?

I am looking to buy a FL2 HSE Auto, which has not been used for 6 – 8 months – is there anything that I should look out for? I have in the back of my mind that you get problems if you do not run the air con?

Flat spots in tyres, battery, seized brakes & signs of mould/rust are the obvious ones that spring to mind.

My car was laid up outside, in my driveway, from August 1st last year to Feb 1st this year. Only issue that I had was a flat battery. Have not had any issues in the last 3000 miles either so I don't think you will have any worries.

Mine is also an HSE Auto

Hi, with reference to your original question, I know a guy who had a new Nissan about 6 years ago and it was in his owners' handbook that the aircon MUST be run at least once per week. Sorry, but cant remember the reason why and don't know whether it would be valid with a newer car or valid with an F2.

The only reason air con needs using frequently is to stop bacteria gathering. Obviously an air con system gets cold and damp so when it's not used bacteria can form. When it's used it keeps it at bay.

If you're really concerned a dealer can flush the air con...costs about £40 I think off the top of my head, or you can buy some products that do it for you if it's really bothering you.

Personally I would think it will be ok. When I worked at BMW some cars were made, then sat in a yard for 6 months or so, then were delivered to a dealer and subsequently sold. Cars sat for a long time happens quite frequently. Mine: 2012 Golf GTI Edition 35

Bacterial control may be a factor, but the usual reason given for running the air-con is to prevent the seals drying out leading to a loss of refrigerant and a consequent inability to maintain pressure in the system even with re-gassing.

Always a good idea to check if the brakes (handbrake) is not sticking, this happens when a car is not driving for some time (rust on the discs) just be carefull when driving off for the first time and with the first braking... Fl2 zermattsilver TD4 S man
