Been lurking for a while since buying my 07 XS in Jan (which i love !).

It is time to replace the tyres on it and having read a gazillion threads on here I am still stumped as to which tyres to buy or weather it is more cost effective to buy new rims too.

At the moment I have 235/65 R17 108V M+S Continental 4x4 contacts on my vehicle, im guessing these were from when it was first made.

I do mostly urban driving so need more of a road tyre.

Should i stick with the Conti's or is there something better out there for me ?

I am using Conti Contact UHP's on 19" rims. Wet performance is very poor. As the car is new I haven't tried any other tyre on this car yet, but I will be changing the brand when it's time to replace. 2010 Freelander 2 Select TD4 auto....gone

Had 235/65 R17 108V M+S Continental 4x4 contacts on my SE from new in Jun 07.

Just changed to Goodyear Wrangler HP A/W which I had on a previous Discovery and were very good in the wet and snow. So far feel as though I've got better grip in the dry and wet on the Goodyears but that maybe because they've got lots of tread.

Personally I prefer the Goodyears over the Continentals.

I have Pirelli Scorpions on my HSE, done about 7500mls, they seem ok in the dry and wet and acceptable road noise, etc

Had these just over 1000 miles so far, and so far so good. £107 each fitted.

Not really had much use in the wet as yet, but road is good and road noise is ok too.

I had the standard Wranglers fitted before these and just wanted a change. Anyhoo off oot on me mobike.....

www.event-tyres.co.uk will do those UHP General Grabbers for £400 fully fitted which is bleeding marvelous. Not sure whether to pay a bit extra for a well known make though, I guess either the Contis or Wranglers.

Who makes General Grabbers and are they meant to be good in all weather ?

General is a tyre brand of Continental, just at BFG is owned by Michelin in Europe.
I have Conti 4x4 contact on mine as a second set but really only so that I could fit the unused spare and only buy 3 new. They are very capable and proved good with TR in the winter conditions. I got 32000 out of the first set. Gone... 2013 XS TD4 Manual Firenze Red

Well i've taken the plunge and booked myself in to get 4 new General Grabbers. Have been reading up on them and I only hear good things about them so for £400 fully fitted at home i'm a happy chappy !

Would these be any good for a Merc ML320?

Very good in all weathers apparantly if you read the tests. Not a winter tyre though  2007 Freelander 2 HSE TD4 Manual with Premium Pack & Moonroof.
Stornoway Grey with Ebony Black Pleather, Clear Indicators, Body Side Mouldings etc.

Had 2 General Grabbers 250/55 19's fitted on the Merc this afternoon, used Event Tyres. Great service and VERY reasonable!

what about Kumho 798 ?
their 235/65/R17 104T are £85 fitted.

Kumho get good reports in other forums , any experience of them on here ?

Like many others I will soon be up for a replacement of my original (G'year Wrangler A/W 235/60 R18) tyres. I'm particularly impressed by the lack of road noise from these, but found them a bit slippy in the ice. So I would be really grateful if anyone who's gone for something else can post their feelings about all aspects of their choice, including any change in road noise?? I'm also thinking about General Grabbers..... Freelander 2, 2007, TD4, Auto, HSE, Baltic Blue

I put Yokohama Advan STs on a couple of months back. So far they are good in the wet, the dry and a little bit of snow. They do seem to be quieter than the previous Continentals, but that's very subjective. However they were £420 fitted and balanced.

I've had 4 of them General Grabber UHP's fitted. Been on a fortnight and i'm very happy. Quieter than my Continental Contacts and certainly seem no worse for grip or wet performance.

I ordered mine through valuetyres.co.uk with discount code TY05, so the total for 4 fitted at my local Hi-Q tyre centre was £398!
