Don't hold your breath - you won't be seeing anything like that in the showroom, probably ever. Renderings like that are just the result of R&D brainstorming, and I've seen much crazier ones than that. There might be the odd element of the design which is incorporated into a new product (the rear light cluster perhaps), but not the whole thing.

New Defender or 7 seater Freelander

According to the German Auto Bild mag, the new Land Rover Defender will look like this.
http://www.autobild.de/ir_img/73481110_f3c93b6f6c.jpg

The complete article is in my gallery if the upload worked correctly.

https://www.freel2.com/gallery/displayimag...&pos=0

Please notice the front and rear doors: they are the same and interchangeable!

But I think the pictures shown are more like the Freelander 3, because according to LR2maker the Freelander 3 looks more like a Nissan Cube on Steroids! (https://www.freel2.com/forum/topic5468.html)

I will try to translate the report (sorry for my bad English, it's not my mother tongue Wink)

Here we go:

Quote:
According to the report, the financial situation of Land Rover doesn't allow them to build a new Defender from scratch, but they have to access already available platforms.

The T5-platform (Discovery/Range Rover) would be ideal (Defender ICON project) but too expensive to build, to heavy, overkill technic.
The T5 platform would be offroad only! But the new Defender will be available in 2 versions: one offroad and one more city friendly à la Freelander.

The T5 platform doesn't allow for more environment friendly engines.

Another platform could be the Freelander platform, with DNA by Ford FOCUS/Mondeo KUGA platform. From these platforms will come the Freelander 3 as seven seater. Which could also serve as New Defender with a lot of changes.
The report also says the Freelander 3 (7 seats) will get rid of the LR Discovery!

The latter platform would only work if JLR/TATA will find a partner willing to deliver ideas and platform like Ford.

But such an alliance isn't in sight.

So the only viable platform would be a new midsize lightweight architecture (MLA) (RR and RRS are PLA=Premium Lightweight Architecture) in steel-space-frame technique (instead of aluminum frame) with modular concept so that all future Land Rover could be based on it.

One platform, 3 different wheel bases, half a dozen constructional systems would allow for a new Defender either only offroad or crossover versions.

Plus the same platform could be used for future Freelanders and RR.

Regards

A Freely with 7 seats ?....... it's got to happen to compete with the rest.
