My manual with cruise control @72mph returns a steady 38mpg (unladen with driver board only)

I would say 95% of the consumption difference is the driving style. I managed to lower my consumption somewhat 25% when I tried for a week. Now I gave up and I am back to where I started.

2 tonne kerb weight and permanant four wheel drive = poor mpg compared to others, quit moaning you have the best driving and most comfortable suv on the road |

Exactly Shilen, if you wanted to get 50mpg you wouldn't consider a Landrover! Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet? |

I have had my XS for 4 weeks now and the MPG has never fallen below 39.8.I live in a rural community and am often crawling behind horse boxes, tractors etc. On the motorway it usually returns 43+ driving around the legal limit. I am an Advanced driver which I suppose helps but my previous car (petrol Rav4) never produced anything above 33MPG so I am more than happy with F2 |

MacWallace - can I assume that you have the 'e' model? Not everyone is making it clear which model they are referring to. Tattoos - Why would you choose to look like the wall of a public toilet? |

I have the e model, but always switch off the stop/start as I just do not like the engine to switch off when it feels like it !!

I'm surprised at that Iain as I have a stop/start system on another car I drive and I use it all the time, it's fantastic. |

I've tried using it, especially when I forget to switch it off, but I just don't feel comfortable with it, and relating to my driving habits/routes, etc I really don't think it would make any difference to mpg. I very seldom sit in heavy traffic or wait at traffic lights for prolonged periods such as you would do if commuting. also I know this is a bit silly but it's just me, but I do not think it does a diesel engine, or a petrol for that matter, to be start/stopped as much. ( I know this has been well tested, etc but difficult to change how you think about these things..........an age thing !! ) but after having said all that, when I have left it on it seems to be a very sophisticated system and works very well. Your right on a good point there Iain - I spend a lot of time in queues so do benefit from it (The blurb says if the engine is off for more than 4 seconds then your saving fuel which even in light traffic is usually the case), I spend a lot of time in various car parks such as M25, M1 and M6

Well there's a thing. Drove from Bognor to Bury St Edmunds on a VERY busy Friday afternoon. Filled up with Diesel on the A3 somewhere and reset the trip. 62mph on the motorways (with a lot of much slower) and the trip was showing 44mpg. That was me, wife and three kids, bags from Butlins and more friggin cuddly toys than you can wag a stick at. So the moral of that story is, if you want better fuel economy, fill your car with Cuddly toys, and children (1 being sick) Hi Darling, I'll be home in 10 mins. If I'm not back, please read this message again... Last edited by xtattsbox on 13th Apr 2010 2:42 pm. Edited 1 time in total |

Got my best ever fuel consumption today - 36.2MPG on the M25 to Walton-On-Thames and back. Never since I have owned it has it got near that. Have to say was a very enjoyable drive.
