Don't know how many of you good folk saw the bit in the times over the weekend about the rise in number of ringed cars - cars being sold under a new identity but with 'correct' paper work.

Basically some careless so and so had 130,000 yes you read it right, 130,000 blank copies of the 'new' V5 stationery nicked back in 2006 and it appears that these have fallen into the wrong hands. The Ringers use these to print new log books for nicked cars using the registered details of cars that haven't been pinched - this way the car doesn't show up on HPI etc. effectively it's cloned.

Due to the numbers of certificates taken the DVLA have considered rolling out a new design - but a always this will take time. so to be on the safe side, if you are out there lokking for a cherished landie or in fact any other prestige automobile check out the V5 - if it has a serial number between BG8229501 AND BG9999030 OR BI2305501 AND BI2800000 then don't buy!!!! The serial number is prnted on the front in a white cirle top right hand corner. If you are in any doubt then call the DVLA to validate the details on 0300 790 6104

Worst case you loose the car and the money you paid for it if it is found to belong to someone else.
