Further to my post advising of the discount being offered by the Wood Company, I have now fitted a luxury leather version to my SE TD4. Main points to note:

1. Arm rest is very good quality.
2. Very easy to fix, with just one large screw to fit into already drilled hole.
3. My version has the sliding armrest - not sure whether or not it is worth specifying. Will let you know after a couple of weeks.
4. Instead of using the supplied velvet pad for sticking in the bottom of the arm rest for covering the screw thread, I have fitted the rubber mat that is removed from the centre console - it's a perfect fit.

Couple of qn's if I may? Does it interfere with the further back cup holder and 12V power supply? Any probs with handbrake? Any chance of some pics fitted?

There is very little intrusion with the handbrake, although sliding the armrest forward will make the intrusion worse.

The cupholder is slightly impeded by the forward slope on the front side of the arm rest but should still be usable with small bottles / cans.

The 12v socket is not impacted at all

I have had the non sliding armrest fitted in 1 min, although I was not satisfied with the height.

As you can see on the picture the armrest in the middle is lower than the armrests attached to the chair, so to store stuff ok but comfort 0 points.

Because of this lack of comfort I added retrofit armrests to the chairs.

Albert, my stealer is trying to find out but has been unsuccessful, if he can fix HSE armrests to SE models. He cannot find out from L. Rover if the armrests simply 'bolt' into the seat frame with a 'prefitted nut' within the seat frame itself, and they dont want to damage a good seat in the process of finding out. Can you advise how you went about it??

@carlfraz, first we ordered a set of armrests at LR, (only available in leather) then the seats were removed and sent to a specialist in Amsterdam in order to fit a sort of frame which is bolted or welded to the chair frame.
If you like I can ask the address maybe they deliver these frames separately. The chairs insides are all the same, the oem frame to fit the armrest does the trick

Further thoughts on my new armrest:

1. I think the height of the armrest has been set so it does not interfere with the operation of the manual gear lever. You can rest your arm very comfortably when changing gear, but it is no good if you want to use it with hands on the steering wheel. That is probably why the standard LR rests fitted to the HSE are in a higher position.

2. The variable length armrest is probably a waste of money. I have been using it in the standard position as any further forward starts to interfere with access to the handbrake.

3. In reference to the after market fit of armrests to the seats as per the LR HSE, I would draw your attention to the road test in the What Car road test from last month. The magazine was critical of the standard arm rests because they did not fold back far enough. Something to think about if you are considering spending several hundred poounds on this mod.

The LR armrests look similar to the armrests in the Ford MPV's VW Sharan etc. Are they any less expensive, they may be available in fabric as well as leather.

Having read with interest the posts of the arm rest problems and looked at the picture, what have you done.
I have spoken with my local LR dealer who says that simple retrofitting is not possible as the seats have a diff frame than the HSE.
Have also looked at the Wood Company storage box/arm rest and whilst it looks a good idea I'm not buying one if it's too low to be used as an arm rest whilst driving.

Arm rests can be bought from LR dealer at about £120.00 but expensive thing to do if I can't get them fitted.

Any news?

@ pwaite, I have a standard td4 E and have had the armrests retrofitted, so here is what to do:

1 Call, ask them for the possibilities in your car
if ok plan short weekend trip to Amsterdam
2 order lr armrests
3 and make an appointment at lower address, bring lr armrests, they provide and install the (their) frame and mount your self brought armrests:

Where did you get the arm rests that fix onto the seats

The armrests for mounting on the side of the chairs have been ordered at the local lr dealer, however mounting frame and fixing on the inside of the chair has been done at snel autobekleding. fits very well and feels solid.
