The recovery points aren't rated, but I suspect that is only for legal reasons to protect LR from incorrect use and abuse. I've been snatched using both front and back without a problem (gently does it). However, I totally agree with Dorko, if you have a towbar then pull the ball out and use the pin. Do not under any circumstances hook the strap over the tow ball on either car. A guy was killed a few weeks ago by a tow ball snapping off and going straight through the windscreen.

thanks fellas, have seen some various reports of the dangers of the tow ball as a recovery point.....bad idea like you say!

Yeh some people have fitted the towbar themselves... to much dramas for my liking. I got LR to put it on and havent had a drama.

My tow bar was about $1400 genuine from dealer and I thought that was a rip off.....$2368, I don't know how they can ask that... |

From memory it was roughly $1500... which is still steep!

These 2 examples I found on the Italian forum for Freelander2 and they have not reported any problems with weight.
