Gurgling noise

Hi, bit of a strange one on our XS. Since we picked it up 3 months ago it will occasionally emmit a sound much like water gurgling through a pipe from under or behind the steering wheel somewhere. It's a moderately loud noise and happens whether its wet or dry out. It only appears to happen on a cruise between 60 and 80 mph and will stop as soon as you slow down.

Before I start ripping the dash apart does anybody have any ideas?

Cheers, Skip. '07 XS Stornoway Grey

Does sound like an airlock in the aircon pipes somewhere

In the old days you parked your motor on a steep uphill, ran the engine with the radiator cap off and watched the bubbles comes out. But now days....... Confused

Hi - not sure of spec but has your XS got a sunroof? Never had a problem on my FL2 but one of my previous FL1's omitted strange gurgling noises that was due to water in the sunroof drain pipes. Problem was most noticeable when you had the sunroof in the tilt position so creating a low air presure area in the sunroof opening. The tubes drain out point by the front wings which was basically at a higher air pressure(ram effect) when the car is going forward and the air pressure difference would cause any water trapped in the pipe to blow back and gurgle.
Dealer had two goes to stop problem but it was down to the run of the pipes and efforts to make them run as straight as possible helped but never properly cured the noise.

Hi, thanks for the input. Well, been away in the Freelander travelling for a few days and the whole time had the 'Econ' button on. It didn't once make the sound so maybe something to do with the air-con as suggested as I believe the econ button deactivates it. I'll try it for a few days without 'econ' mode now to see if it comes back.

NB: No sunroof on my one so thats ruled out. '07 XS Stornoway Grey

Lol, blame O2 broadband for that. Why does their technical support think speeds of 135kb and continuous drop-outs is an acceptable broadband service!! Censored '07 XS Stornoway Grey
