Hi

I seem to remember that some people had some sun shades, that fill the windows, rather than the cheap mothercare style stick on versions.

Just wondering where you can get these from, and how much they cost.

Also, do the work, do they stay in place, and do they do a good job at keeping the sun out?

Any advice appreciated

Rich, go for the aftermarket privacy after post B. Max price 300 pounds, probably get it a lot cheaper than that and you cant tell the difference between that and factory and I've got two cars, one with factory fit privacy and one aftermarket privacy.

rmb, I agree with Carnoch (Well almost) yes for sure go with the privacy film (but not too dark) as it is UV blocking and will be far superior to the stick on sun shade. You can tell the difference between factory dark glass and privacy film but only on the two side rear windows and the back window, as you can see the heating and radio elements through the film. I have the film and I am really happy with it - pictures in my gallery of before and after

McP, you are right re the ariel things in the rear window. Never noticed that. I must admit when I couldn't get the last car as quick as I wanted if I went for factory privacy, I went for LR dealer after market, despite fears it would peel off, and it's been fine, a bit darker than the factory on the other car, but I think you can pick your shade, although I wasn't given an option on that.

I don't have them on mine but one of my boys has them on his Focus and he swears that his car is a lot cooler when its parked in the sun to his older car which was bereft of privacy glass. I have offered to get it fitted but I have been told by swmbo that she will keep getting requests for wraps if we did.

as an aside Land Rover used to fit Optikool glass to the FL1 which really helped with solar gain. I think the idea of that was inherited from Rover Group at the time. Sadly it was dropped for the FL2.

The only issue is that I need to get some shades/tints now, as the large side windows allow a lot of light onto the back seats, and our new baby, in her chair.

The reason I didn't want tints/film is that I'm due to trade in our FL2 in the summer, so thought the removable shades would come with us, or be sold when we get another FL2, with factory tints this time.

So £300 for 4-5 months is a lot, where as something I can sell on eBay later on is a better buy.

Nice ideas though, should really have gone with tinted windows when I bought it.

FYI - My film tint was £180 from the 'b' piller back but your absolutely right rmb, pointless if your changing your car - go on fleabay and type in 'car window shade' and bob's yer uncle

- need to star tthinking about our 850 mile trips to France - 2 kids, 2 Labs and 3 bikes ! FL1 dogs were happy as the rear window went down - bikes mounted on spare wheel - think tinting might be the answer for dogs. Cheers

privacy/ film is good for little ones but its amazing how the bright light seems to find its way directly into his/her eyes,, we've had a few screamed out trips when the sun is low , but the light will always find a way round the stick on blinds too At work
