Has anyone else had these symptoms:-

Done only 16 miles since last fill-up and so start-up today with known full-tank of fuel but guage says 'empty' and trip computer says 'zero' miles left in tank. As we drive straight to a nearby filling station, the guage crept towards 1/4 and the trip said ~50 miles left. Checked fuel, full tank, only managed to squeeze in another couple of litres.

Started-up again and fault has magically disappeared, everything reading normal?

Aye - i'll go with software glitch because i ran about for 16 miles with the guage reading ok.

So that must be what the black grommet is for under the offside rear passenger seat

yes, some had faults with the wiring loom under there but on only earlier models I think, (possibly poorly built grey ones ) At work

I have had exactly that after filling up the night before, thought someone had nicked my fuel
Turned car off then on again and magically the tank was full.
Only ever happened that once. 09 FL2 HSE auto Lago Grey

Had te same issue on my FL2 last week. Dropped it in to the garage to get a heat shield tightened up under the body (due to anoying rattle) and hey presto the next day the fuel gauge dropped to zero when I know I had just under half a tank left. Filled up the next day and no problems so I took it as a one off. Then today after the fuel gauge dropped below half a tank the gauge dropped to zero again. Stopped the car, resarted and everyhting was fine, guage showing just under half a tank. Drove another ten minutes and it dropped again to zero. Phoned dealers, booked in next Tuesday to investigate.

Mine was in for five days trying to resolve this last month, they suspected the sender unit in the tank, but after 5 days they failed to find a fault and after software updates it has failed to do it again.

But for £500 I would buy a bit of hose and dip the tank.

Rather than play a guessing game at your expense would it not be better to buy a hand held diagnostics unit such as the Hawkeye and plug it in when the gauge wrongly says empty - so you can see what information the sender is relaying back to the control unit?

Assuming the hawkeye etc. can drill down to this level - my car's in the garage at the moment so I can't test it.

Worst comes to the worst you spend £350 on the diagnostics unit and flog it on ebay for £250 some time later. Tangiers Orange - gone, missing her

Exact symtoms on my new SD, it needed new tank sender unit.
Dealer removed rear diff still attached to propshaft as new SD was different???? before lowering tank to change sensor. Made an a--e of it as next time I filled fuel it ran down forecourt, back again and all stripped out to fit new seal "as land rover must have supplied a faulty one???????
Then noticed heatshield rattle and found front shield damaged, oxygen sensor multiplug lying on exhaust and not clipped in place but also propshaft to diff coupling (the one they could not separate) had been attacked by a hammer!!!!

Please dont ask what I said to service manager I think you can guess. Two topic of conversation involved "monkeys and nuts" and "skodas/reliability" All FL2's (3) Gone
