Booked mine in for next Thursday to change to 13 pin, they will also be changing the the wire to one piece as opposed to two seven core wires.
I use the same auto electrician now for the last fifteen years or so and as a belt and braces approch they always fill the back of the plug with silicon to stop any water ingress, I suppose this is ok unless you need to gain access but never had the need to.

Well i picked up the freelander on the 20th and quickly checked the electrics with my multimeter, no surprise the caravan electrics were not working, couldn't do much about it as A the workshop is not open saturdays and B due a family crisis in the USA I drove the 8 miles straight to Heathrow and parked it there until I picked it up yesterday.
Anyway had a look today and as advised I checked to see if there was a fuse, There wasn't. Poped a 15amp fuse in and the miltimeter says everything is working.
So far the freelander drives really nicely and I got 34.5MPG back from Heathrow. While in the USA I looked at some of the review books for reviews of the FL2, all said reliability was poor, which was disapointing.
Anyway look forward to driving it now and will update on the general section.

Message for BFGLR2MAN - just to recap, had the 12n & 12s at the back of the car and have now had it changed to 13 pin. I had it done by a local towbar fitter although it just was a case of disconnecting the two sockets and re-wiring into the 13 pin, all tested fine...... never in doubt but you were correct

Personally, I prefer 13 pin for two reasons:

1. You have to twist and lock the plug into the socket, so you know that it can't come out, and that it is always properly connected (it also makes it easier to plug-in in the dark etc as it only goes in with the flat bit at the 9 o'clock position and then rotate 90 deg clockwise.

2. The asthetics of one socket rather than two, and only one lead/plug on the front of the caravan, plus it allows me to hide away the electric socket (see my gallery for pictures.

Asthetics aside (which is actually true), the single 13 is a far superior connection and the way that it has been fitted with copious use of silicone it should be sealed for life. Also as B'MAN says the twistlock is very good.

Just sniffing around at the moment to see what trailers are about but when I get in the mood to do something I have to do it so had the car changed by a fitter (I was bothered a bit about having to get the towing signal reset by LR but not needed). I bought a new 13 pin socket for the caravan side (Black & Grey lead into one socket) and I wired that up this weekend, all works fine including Fridge & battery charger. I could have just purchased the two into one adapter lead but 'ad' says they are a pain in the butt and look naff.

Crusaders are the dogs but you pay for it...look at the Pegasus 646 T/A £17,500 triple rear bunk plus side table 1750kg or model 546 in a single axle 1500 kg @£16,300 Dickensons Bradford. We go for a fixed double bed everytime......just like being in a cottage with a better view

Yes it is a different layout with a side table for the kids, but as an observation the rear bunks look a bit claustrophobic on the Eldiss

Notice to CG, the last few postings may seem Double Dutch to you so we need to explain, Iffor Williams are bringing out a new range and it was hush hush but the secrets out now.

Mcphurson, I very much doubt if you will find a new California the last ones came off the line in November, had a look at the Peggy but not for me it feels cold in them more akin to a hospital glad I got the California when I did.

Be careful how you plug the 13 pin in, you need to get into the habit of holding the flap with one hand and turning the plug with the other, after you have done it with one hand and skinned the back of your hand and thumb you get the habit.
