I have an original Casio Digital Circa 1977 and still going strong and only needs a new battery every 18-24 months, It serves me well and I haven't been late for work or an appointment since.

I agree a good watch has to be accurate, but I also accept I have to adjust mine and those few extra seconds a day makes absolutely no difference in my life. I'd take a mechanical over quartz every time.

My 50 year old Certina Blue Ribbon automatic is still going strong although it has been cleaned a couple of times and had a new glass and bracelet

For years and years I wanted a Rolex GMT Master and must have spent a small forune on different brands every year or two trying to make sure I hade one which looked and felt right. Not to mention SWMBO being completely brassed off looking in jewellers windows at the Rolex offerings. I was not interested in Breitling, Omega TAG or any of the others, Just the Rolex. Anyway my 50th birthday yielded my Rolex GMT Master 2 and I have never looked in a jewellers shop window for the last 14 years. I wear it all the time except for bed and sometimes have to wash cememnt or other household grunge off it but it still looks brand new. Timing is as good as digital even though its an automatic and I love it! Nick, make sure you have the one you really want never mind the cost as it will save you money and time in the future. Ralph

At a dinner so years ago just as the coffee was being served The Chairman asked in a voice that could be heard throughout the room "Can anyone tell me the time" and immediately 20 guys who belonged to the organisation shot their cuffs to show their identical Omega Seamaster watches and replied with the time which got a laugh from all of us guests to the dinner.

All down to personal choice, the most accurate is a £10 petrol station battery quartz jobby, but if you like the look of a posh watch buy it. i have a Tag automatic for worst, a seamaster automatic for cycling/gardening etc, and a rolex for everyday. but then I do like watches |

I find the good thing with Rolex watches is that the resale value is always high. |

Not exactly.... Officially certified chronometers loose -4 or +6 seconds per day. Not that accurate, but they are not fixed so that may be +6 one day and - 4 the next (over longer periods they are 99.994% accurate). They are extremely accurate over a longer period of time, whereas a quartz mechanism will loose or gain a fixed amount on a daily basis, it will get more and more inaccurate. Buy a watch with the Atomic clock thing on it, never, ever out!!! Hi Darling, I'll be home in 10 mins. If I'm not back, please read this message again... |
