Ireland 2009 Freelander 2 TD4 GS Manual Baltic Blue
Recall Record?

In January, I took the Freely back to the Dealer because it has developed a couple of irritating faults (loss of radio tuning/reception; loss of cruise control; airbag warning light permanently lit on dashboard). They were unable to fix those faults, at the time, but will address them again when it goes in for it's first annual service, tomorrow.

However, the January visit did highlight the fact that my car had not received work ordered by a prior safety recall notice and I had to leave the car with them for the full day whilst something was done about it.

The Dealer would not discuss the details with me but I thought I'd try to find out more about the matter (prior to tomorrow's service) and the only Freelander 2 TD4 recall that comes up on the internet is from September 2008, involving an electric booster heater.

As the work was not carried out when my car was prepped, in February 2009, and I subsequently received no recall letter, or phone call, I just wondered whether any other owners have been driving around, for the last 12 months, in what I have been led to believe is a potential fire trap? Or is this, indeed, a singular record..?

Where would I look for signs of possible damage as a result of this recall work not being done?

Is anyone aware of any other pertinent recall notices which it would be useful to know about?

Can't be.

Otherwise why would it have been necessary to perform the recall work a couple of weeks ago, without notice?

Looking at the supplied wheels, etc, I'd guess at a Summer 2008 or earlier manufacture date.

check your vin against those published on the vosa recalls website. Try www.vosa.gov.uk recalls or something similar...

Also 'phone LR customer service as they SHOULD know if the rework has been carried out.

Thanks. I will look up my VIN, tomorrow.

I guess what's really bugging me is not knowing whether these other faults might have been caused as a result of the recall problem not being fixed when I bought the car.

Not being a mechanic I guess I'll never know...

It just seems odd, and a little coincidental, that a car that has performed exceptionally, up until now, should suddenly have all these problems!

I am indeed a chump! I'm sure it wasn't lit when i bought it... must have been the gremlins sneaking into the car at night to turn it off Rolling Eyes

OK. Got the service carried out.

No explanation as to the Recall scenario but with regard to the other problems:

1. The lower of the two cruise control switches will not engage but does now cancel.

2. The Radio will be replaced completely.

3. The airbag warning light is still on and, apparently, is referring to the drivers side airbag. It has no yet been decided if it can be repaired or if the whole seat will need to be swapped out.

Far more work than I had anticipated but all under warranty so...

As I say, just serviced but my onboard computer suggests I'm now using 8.0 litres/100km instead of the 7.3 it read before the recall work and service were carried out!

Hope this isn't turning into a saga...

They should tell you what work is being done on your car, who do they think they are? I've just booked mine in for some warranty work and was informed that they are changing the horn (due to battery draining issues) so maybe it is that?

Battery drainage is listed as a symptom on the safety recall notice...

The fact that they are replacing the whole radio makes me think that the heater really must have warmed things up badly.

Below is a copy of the notice from an Australian site (the only online copy I could find, quickly).

I never received a PDC heater recall letter from LR, only asking for it to be sorted whilst taking it in for a service got it sorted. To this day never received a letter, if I had not asked about it would my FL2 have melted away by now???
