if you phone around a few dealers for a quote you should be able to get the price down a good bit.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll give a couple more Main Dealers a shout and se if I can get a better deal. However, your responses regards using Main Dealers raise a different question, which is 'Why?' If an Independent Garage can do a service using OEM parts to Land Rover 'standard' without impacting the Warranty, why the requirement to use a Land Rover specialist?

no "legal" requirement or anything, but if you do need warranty work done it is more straightforward if you have been using a Landrover dealer for servicing.

i have always used independent specialists the theory is they have a better knowledge of your car than someone that deals with every marque. Specialists normally are staffed by ex-dealer technicians and so are fully trained on that marques product range. When i last had mine serviced they were able to produce a list of three items which needed rectification on warranty and so i was able to take to the dealer and explain exactly the problem and desired solution. Also the stamp in the service book says land rover specialist, so whilst not as bulletproof as a full dealer service history still better than a generic stamp |

If you buy a car for say 20k & try & save £90 buy having a back street garage service it, your mad the LAND ROVER stamp in your service book will be worth more than that. |

Having spent last 25 years in Ford Franchised Dealers (retired for 5 years) and have well stocked toolbox in garage I still know the benefits of Dealer Service so pay the price for mine.

Pentland charged me £350 (inc the £10 for a loan car) for my 2nd Service. I'd tend to agree that it's probably better to keep it in the dealer system (having said this our wee Smart is serviced by the independant Saab specialist I used to use for my Saab - in my experience the Mercedes customer service had to be experienced to be believed and put me off even considering a Merc). Can help resale later on as well. If your comparing prices there's also Stratstone in Cupar (again not that far). I heard that the Edinburgh Stratstone is closing and that Pentland will be moving to larger premises, don't know how true this is though. |
